@runt66:
You probably installed the 64-bit version of Java, while Wireshare needs the 32-bit version. I just posted a download link, but that post is now being moderated (probably because I included a link). The name of the 32-bit java installation file is jre-8u251-windows-i586.exe

This will not help as all previous versions of WireShare/LimeWire that use that outdated icu4j are affected. You would need to downgrade Java until the next release.

Always use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel or the Java uninstaller to remove Java as it will remove the system registry entries also. If you simply delete the Java version from the file system then then registry entries will point to an invalid location. If this is the case then you should try reinstalling Java 1.8.0_261 and then uninstalling it again via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Also, as stated by CornelisJ, you should ensure that you have the i586 version of Java installed.

NOT SURE ABOUT POOR ELLIOT BUT MY WIRESHARE IS WORKING BEAUTIFULLY ;
IT SEEMS THAT THE KEY TO SUCCESS MAY HAVE BEEN THAT 32-bit java installation file ;

THANK YOU ALL GUYS FOR YOUR TIME AND TROUBLE .

bump, any resolve?
..so after posting this I got to the end of thread and saw the workaround with java 251. It seem a outdated thread tho, worked fine just a few days ago but as of today aug 28th 2020, had to delete java and reinstall the 251. Something changed in java or win10 to warrant this?

Probably due to the java sub-version going higher than 255 and that broke the limit of the 3rd party icu4j within WireShare which expects there to not be a sub-version higher than 255.

What I believe is causing it to fail is that the Java revision number is greater than 255. Try uninstalling Java 1.8.0.261 and install Java 1.8.0.251 and report back here if that resolves the issue.

Maybe your java was (automatically?) updated from 251 to 261, and then Wireshare does not start anymore. To avoid that Java is updated you can disable checking for updates in the java control panel, until a new version of Wireshare becomes available that can work with a java sub-version number higher than 255.

I noticed that WireShare 6.0.1 is available for download per today.
See https://sourceforge.net/projects/wireshare/files/.
The program does start up now with the latest version of Java (1.8.0_261) installed.
