doesn't launch (and I've re-installed)

I've used LimeWire fine in the past, but now, when I click on the desktop icon or start menu shortcut, nothing happens.

Here's the history of the problem:

I uninstalled some spyware and Java Runtime environment, but THEN when LW didn't work, I did a system restore. no help. I uninstalled LW and re-installed using my original installer file. nothing. I uninstalled again, downloaded the new LW version from the site, and installed it. I even uninstalled Java and installed the JRE version that your site links to. Still nothing. Oh, and naturally I rebooted after every operation.

I have an always-on cable internet connection. No other problems of any kind, and tons of memory. WHAT GIVES?

Sorry, I am replying to my own post to supply more info you might need. I'm running Win ME on a P IV 1.5G, 384MB, 20GB with about 3 available, and a cable modem. This same configuration worked very well in the past when I was running LW. I have a firewall which asks me for permission for any program to connect to the internet. Normally, I would start LW, it would launch, and then my firewall would pop up a window saing that Java wants to connect to the internet, and I would click OK. Now when I click on LW, there is no launch and no connection attempt.

trash every LimeWire shortcut installer you currently have on your desktop, temp folders, and anywhere else on your hard drive, completely uninstall LimeWire and Java, reboot your computer, get the JRE from Sun's website:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download-windows.html

install that, reboot your computer, get LimeWire's alternate Windows installer, and try installing that.
