cannot type in 'search' field Running Win2000 as administrator. I uninstalled both Limewire and Java - and then reinstalled both java and free limewire 2.44 - the problem persists. I'm clueless. I cannot type in the 'search' field. Instead I do get hotkey buttons dropping down menus when I do try to type in the 'search' field. I may have to switch to winmx? |
Hvae you rebooted the computer recently (if not - do so)? Have you scanned for viruses recently (ditto)? Can you open up notepad and type into that without problem? Mark |
I'm running avg antivirus and have been running it consistently for over 3 months while regularly updating it. As far as I know the problem is Limewire specific. I can type into notepad and use all my other software normally. There have been several reboots too. Again, Lime wire is not allowing me to type into the 'search' field. Instead, I get drop down menus in response to striking 'hot keys'. Thanks for your help. |
That's a java problem, it occurs sometimes with my LimeWire, too, but it usually doesn't persist if I switch back and forth between the panels. |
type not you try going to- tools, internet options, security. then set to default level. |
still unworkable I set internet security to minimum. I uninstalled Netscape 7 beta (it used a different Java2). Again I uninstalled all java and Limewire installations and tried again from scratch. I also emptied my bloated share file. Limewire 2.44 seems completely unuasable on my system (Win2000, 333mhz P2, 256mg ram, 80gig HD). Again, I'm unable to type anything into the 'search' box -instead drop down windows appear in response to 'hot' buttons being hit when I try to type. This isn't something that occasionally happens - I can't type -ever, no matter what I friggin try! I'm out of ideas. Limewire 2.44 is not working and unusable on my box no matter what I try. I want that older installation back, the one that worked. Is there an archive of older limewire installations? What's up? Are there spys working at Limewire, sabotaging the software to foward an anti 'piracy' agenda? For a while I looked foward to every Limewire 'upgrade'. Limewire is a Java product, if it doesn't work on one computer running java - will it work on any computer? Am I the only person with this problem? Mykill23 |
I suggest you use another client. LimeWire is not worth the trouble. |
All I can say is I am running Win 2K also and have no problem. I am running the Sun Jave 1.4 JRE. Unless you uninstalled the previous version of Limewire it shoulf still be in you C:\Program Files\Limewire directory under a directory named the same as the version number |
