Help! Can I save files to diskette or cd-rolm?

I need to replace my hardrive. Is there a way to transfer downloaded files to the new hardrive? We have only one computer. We've downloaded about 250 songs. Can I save them to a disk or burn it onto a cd? I'd hate to lose all of those files. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

You can burn the files to CD (if you have a CD Writer). You can copy the files to a new hard disk in the same computer or to a new computer.

/How/ you do this is not the purpose of the *LimeWire* forum.

There are other places that can go into far more detail about your options and how to implement them elsewhere on the net.

It is not that I don't want to help you - but you are far better off with complete detailed information than a few lines of incomplete advice that may lead you to do more damage than help.

It is seriously worth considering paying a professional to do the data transfer for you given that you are unsure about how to transfer data between disks.

I'm so sorry. I'm not very savvy about these things, so wasn't sure where to post this question. That's all I needed to know (whether or not this was do-able). I really can't pay Gateway $80 to save the data for me, especially for something that cost me $0 to obtain. Mark, you suggested going elsewhere on the net, to get the "how." Any suggestions? I don't have any specific suggestions - but you could try some of the computer magazines online.

ZDNet has a few How To Guides. CNET probably has something useful (although there is a lot of other stuff to dig through).

Look in your local newsagent and take a note of the magazine titles - then look them up online.

If you have the new diskdrive installed in your computer alongside the old one - then windows explorer will let you copy between the drives.

A lot depends on where the new and the old hard disk drives are relative to one another.

This stuff is /way/ over my head, LOL! My computer has a built-in cd-burner, so I will copy only a few files that I can't do without. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Try using Norton Ghost, which you can probalbly find at any software selling store does an excellent job of backing up files.

Or you could phone up your local computer geek friend and ask him to hook up both your HDD's and do a direct transfer. It actually looks cool seeing two HDDs hanging out of the computer connected by those duct-tape like IDE cables . Just make sure those master/slave jumpers are correct.
