Angry Explorer Resets

When running Lime Wire, if I press the Shift key in Explorer, it fully resets all programs and causes a windows error!! I am using Win 2000 Pro with SP2 and all the hot fixes, Lime Wire 2.4.4.

This sounds like Cydoor again. Not the spyware it used to be, but still the same bug. I imagine you're using McAfee with the WebScan loaded, as this tends to cause problems with explorer, but even moreso in internet explorer.

Anyway, delete C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\cd_clint.dll. That should solve, unless you use KaZaA, in which case download www.cexx.org/cd_clint.zip and extract to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.

Cheers!

This sounds similar to a conflict occasionally seen with McAfee VirusScan. If you are running VirusScan, close all its features in the sytem try, and see if that solves your problem. If that works, you should consider upgrading to the latest version of McAfee which I believe does not cause the error and is a free upgrade for many users.

Hi

I'm experiencing similar problems, but the file above does not exist on my machine, and I don't use McAfee, I use Innoculan.....

My explorer becomes highly unstable whenever LimeWire is running? Any help appreciated....

Platform: Win2K Pro .... SP2 ... All OS Bug fixes applied.
Application LimeWire 2.4.4 Pro
Java:
java version "1.4.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0-b92)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0-b92, mixed mode)

Regards

T.

consultant, ignore the next paragraph if you have LimeWire Pro

I'll bet that cydoor does exist, but you have the options set to not show dll "hidden" files. Open Windows Explorer and goto Tools->Folder Options->View. Change the bullet to "show hidden files and folders" and hit ok. The file should be there. Note: sometimes the WinNT folder can be called Windows and the System32 is sometimes called System, Mostly due to upgrades of windows. [Edit] If you don't feel like messing with settings and hunting down files, run this. It's a simple prog I wrote with the NSIS installer, guarateed not to screw anything up. It just replaces the cd_clint.dll with a dummy file.

I thought it was only McAfee Webscan that caused the problem, it would be odd if Innoculan did the same, strange thing. McAfee did release a v6.02.3000 patch last week, but I haven't had time to check if anything was solved.

Last and most important, be sure to have the latest device drivers for your box, expecially the 4 in 1's for VIA boards. Windows Update does a decent job for most other devices. The same goes for if you recently installed new drivers, they could also cause a prob. Computers are toooo touchy.
