javaw causing error in kernel.32.dll?! help? everytime i close limewire this error message pops up: "Javaw has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Javaw will now close." sooo then i hit "close" and it just pops up again! i cant figure out how to get it off my screen. i have win ME. what should i do to fix this? |
Yes, this is an annoying problem. It is a bug in Java that manifests itself in Windows ME. I'm fairly certain that uninstalling Java 1.4 and downgrading to Java 1.3 will solve your problem. Clearly this is not the ideal solution and I am looking for a better one. Good Luck Avi |
thank you. where would i go to get the java downgrade? i have already uninstalled the version i had originally. |
Here -> http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/ |
actually that doesn't work either...at least not on WinME |
Yeah, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I think the problem has to do with the process of upgrading from Java 1.3 to 1.4. I recently performed a clean install of Windows ME, on my WinME machine, and immediately installed Java 1.4. After that LimeWire stopped displaying the error. It is unlikely that this would be worth the effort for most users. There's probably a key or an environment variable somewhere that causes the problem, but I can't find it. |
Update: I've been told the new Java beta 1.4.1 solves this problem. |
how do i get it? what do i do to install the new java in place of the old one? what site do i get it from? |
I added the instructions to our FAQ(http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/faqs#pla6). Please let me know if the solution works for your computer. Thanks! Avi Jutagir Lime Wire LLC |
On a related note, I'm getting a similar problem in Win 98. Going to try the new version of Java to see how it goes. |
