I did the same thing, with a fresh DL of Limewire, and the above site to Java. My system still freezes up after a few minutes, to the point I have to do a hard reboot. I have an old PC I was going to reformat with WinME, and see if Limewire works OK there. Is this just an XP problem? Still looking for any help on my XP system.

Thanks

Angry LimeWire still NFG with XP

It seems to be just XP, atleast that is my experience.

When I used the same version of LimeWire and Java on Windows 2000 Professional, it worked fine. After installing XP, however, LimeWire is NFG.

Ok, the plot thickens I have home networking with my main computer having the broadband connection, running XP. I reformatted an old computer with Win98, got it into the network, and downloaded Limewire to it. Guess what, after running Limewire for a few minutes on the Win98 machine, my main computer with the broadband connection proceeds to freeze up (not the Win98 machine), just like before. And of course I lose the connection. Oh well, guess I'll wait for another update to Limewire and hope for the best. I am running out of options here.

Unhappy XP Lockup continues after upgrades

I just downloaded and installed 3.2.2.

Same lockup problems, although it took longer for them to appear. It got my hopes up.

Default XP Lockup continues after upgrades

I just tried 3.2.3.

Good news: XP does not lock up anymore !

Continuing bad news: With LimeWire running I lose my internet connection after a few minutes inside LimeWire and every other program that needs internet (newsgroup reader, Messenger, Outlook, et. al.)

Once I kill LimeWire I can re-connect all other apps and they re-connect just fine.

3.3.1 locked up XP, now going to try 3.3.3 beta.

The search for a stable version that runs in XP continues ...

Hi guys

I'm on Mac OSX, but had similar lockup problems that took months to sort out. The main culprit turned out to be the p2p throttling software the ISP was using (CISCO NBAR--freely supplied). It allowed leaf connections and downloads, but made uploading very difficult and Ultrapeer connections unstable.

If others are finding XP works OK with LW, try talking to your ISP, or changing your gnutella port to some really high number, like 20400 or something like that.

Sorry for the interruption--thought it might be worth a try.

3.3.3 beta had me hoping !

It ran for quite some time, then started locking up my machine. Eventually I had to re-boot.

I even tried the high-port suggestion (20400). No change.

I find it hard to view this as progress

What version of java are you running, Chris? If it's not Java 1.4.2 (final, not beta), try upgrading to that from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.

Thanks, and sorry about the lockups. They happen randomly?

I believe I have the 1.4.2 java beta. I will download the final and let you know what the effect is.

LimeWire runs fine for a time. Up to an hour. Then the entire machine starts locking up for about 30 seconds, the fine for 30, locking up for 30, etc.

In the past, I have been able to just kill LimeWire and things settled down. Not with 3.3.3. I have had to re-boot.
