Downloading Mac .sit- files on PC

I want to download Mac- files with my PC and then transfer them to Mac later on. I heard that .sit- files get corrupt on Pc, is this true? Just want to know before even trying.

Thanks.

I have done this in the past with no problems... that is I did not unpack the .sit file until it was on the MAC.
