Windows Installation?? I've download the Windows version of the LimeWire client, and I get a filename "LimeWireWin" (not an .exe file - in fact has no file type at all). Experimenting I did the following: (*) I found that I could unzip it, and I found a file Windows\install.exe. When I execute this file, it runs and exits immediately. (*) I found that I could rename it to LimeWireWin.exe and execute it, and I get "InstallAnywhere preparing to install" dialog box, but once again, the installation exits immediately. Can anyone tell me how to install this? I'm running on a new Windows ME system with a ZoneAlarm firewall installed. Thanks, John J. Xenakis john@jxenakis.com |
I think u have to turn off your firewall to load anything that is going to write to your hard disk. Have you followed there instuctions? http://www.limewire.com/support/help/install.htm Sorry I am on a Mac don't know much about ppc's. |
The firewall doesn't prevent anything, really -- certainly not disk writes. What is does is ask you before allowing an application program to access the internet. I mentioned the firewall in my posting, but I don't see how it could prevent an install program from starting up and displaying a dialog box. What I really believe is happening is that LimeWire's software must have a bug which depends on some feature of Windows which isn't supported by Windows ME. Has anyone gotten this software working on Windows ME?? John |
