LimeWire & LimeWire Pro

I'm kinda new here, can someone tell me the difference between LimeWire and LimeWire Pro,? besides the fact that one is paid for and has no advertisements and the other one isn't.

Hi Worth,

That's basically it. By paying a small fee you support the development of Limewire and avoid the ads. It is worth it to me. I hate the ad's and spyware associated with the free version and software development is time consuming and costly. The developers must be supported and I am happy to pay.

That said, I disagree with Limewires policy of forcing you to upgrade and pay again. In my personal opinion, If I buy a program it should work as purchased basically forever. Give me upgrades for six months and then let me live with what I have. Hopefully the developers will add enough features that I will want to upgrade on my own, but, after seven months or so don't say "Oh by the way your current version won't work next week. Pay again or you are out of luck".

I agree with ya here Norm. Unfortunately, the reason for the "forced" upgrade is.... the newer LimeWire versions include GWebCache support, and GWebCaches are required to connect to the Gnutella network.

Perhaps LW should offer a free Pro patch that allows GWebCache support, and connection to the network for older LW Pro versions... but without all the other features & enhancements of newer versions.

Rutro:

I think you suggest a good approach. A patch to fix it without added features.

Now myself, I paid again (for the third time) because I love and use the program on a regular basis but I dislike being forced to upgrade just to keep the program functional. If I wasn't a regular user and wasn't aware that I had to upgrade I might be trying to use an old version of the program, wondering what was wrong and wasting time troubleshooting it.

Your suggestion for a patch that only makes a version usable is a good one and something, I believe, the Limewire developers should consider, at least in the future.

Enjoy your posts - informative and helpful. See you around the forum.
