![]() Hi, The Limewire application launches successfully, but then crashes soon after - usually within seconds. NO ERRORS are reported and the PC does not crash. I've loaded Limewire version 2.9.8 with Java2TM Runtime Environment, v. 1.3.1 (JRE). Installation went smoothly. I am running Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest patches, service packs and Internet Explorer 6 (everything required, as of 2nd APRIL 2003). I have checked Event Viewer, but no information is reported there. I loaded the U.S. version of Limewire (3.9MB installer), rather than the International version (13.0MB), although I'm in the UK. I have a Firewall, but I don't think it's relevant, as I experience the problem even if the firewall is disabled. My internet connection (ADSL) is also fine. I've seen a number of other reports of this problem on the forum, but no definitive solution. I've tried un-installing and then re-installing Limewire (with re-boot in-between), but it made no difference. Can anyone advise what might be causing this issue? Thanks. ![]() Try closing all other applications running in the background, especially firewalls and other network software.

![]() I'll double-check, but I think I tried running Limewire after shutting down the firewall software. I read a thread from one person who seems to have resolved the problem by installing the international version of the product. What's the difference between the U.S. and International versions - is it only language differences? Last edited by waspa; April 3rd, 2003 at 08:17 AM. |

![]() Hi, Thanks for that. I should have updated this thread, because shutting down my firewall system (rather than just disabling it) actually resolved the problem - although leaving my PC totally open to the internet!! I'll try installing the international version as you suggest, with the hope that it will allow my firewall software to remain active. |

![]() As far as I can see, there is no solution to our problem. I have also allowed LimeWire to pester me into downloading an unnecessary upgrade, only to discover that neither the US version nor the International version work. Firstly, LimeWire does not allow me to upgrade to version 2.9.8 Pro; I must downgrade to version 2.9.8, in violation of the sales aggreement, that allows me upgrades for 6 months. Version 2.9.8 does not work, while I must continue to use version 2.8.5 Pro. There is no way to remove the update demands that display every time my only working version of LimeWire loads. On the one hand, the company appears to supprt serverless peer-to-peer networking, but in reality they want to keep an off switch, so that they can shut their paying customers down. My dialog box displays that only users of versions prior to 2.6 must upgrade, but the pestering nevertheless has continued all month. Even though I have chosen to keep using 2.8.5 Pro. Technical support from this company is totally useless; they simply tell people to install the International version, and ignore all details. The International version also crashes directly after launching. |

![]() I'm sorry. I'm not interested at making my software suppliers angry, and think that it's a good thing that you produce new versions of your software. My real problem is that version 2.9.8 , as far as I can tell, will never run on my computer. One reason may be my firewall, which your progam can be picky about, and another reason may be that I'm still using Windows 98, which I've heard has slipped below the minimum system requirements of your program. For that reason, I would like to be able to continue to use version 2.8.5 pro. I'm slightly disappointed that I missed my chance to upgrade to 2.8.6 . But as long as I have this computer, I feel that I should be able to use the programs that I obtained for it. The constant dialog boxes telling me to upgrade interfere with that in as far as I have put my LimeWire shortcut into my Startup folder, to start every time my computer does. The dialog boxes delay the start of LimeWire until I can attend the computer. However I have found my own practical way around this problem, and should be happy with that for some time to come. I won't explain this solution because in the past other software suppliers have not liked it. |
