Illegal

I get the same error using 1.4b. This is why I tryed 1.5 which as we know has its own problems. Now I have no Limewire because they both don't work. After the 1.5 trouble I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1.4b but that was no help.
Using Win98 SE on 1GHz Athlon/Tbird 512MB Ram.

Later ;)

Maybe some of us don't have a DETAILS button option to click on when this nasty error surfaces.

I think I have a solution

I think I have a solution for the NEWDOTNET.dll error. Newdotnet, or New.net, rather, is a spying program installed infamously by Bearshare, plus lots of others. To get rid of it safely, including the dll, get ad-aware. Something that isn't there can't give you an error, I guess. An added bonus is you'll also get all the other spyware of your system, too. Please tell me ASAP if this works or not.

P.S.=Remember it will take two ad-aware passes to remove all of the stuff.

Kirby, this has nothing at all to do with spyware.

Yes, I know. It has mostly nothing to do with spyware. But the spyware is unintentionally causing errors. If the spyware isn't there, then it can't cause errors. Just try my idea and tell me if it works.

IT WORKS...

I just did it and now I've been runnng to 20 minutes straight with no errors....

I used to get the illegal operation problem 2 or 3 minutes after opening Limewire.

One more thing...

How many folks with the crashing Win98 problem have installed BearShare with the the new.net software? (Installing new.net without BearShare counts too.) This seems to cause problems with LimeWire. The fix is easy; remove new.net a la Kirby's post!

Christopher or Kirby..
Help!! I like your idea about removing new.net...but where on my hard drive is it located? I already uninstalled BearShare...but I'm still getting the same errors as everyone else. Where is it located so I can delete it?

I think it's safest to use the 'Add/Remove Software' option from the Windows Control Panel. If that doesn't work, I would try downloading 'ad-aware' as suggested by Kirby.

We need your help

LimeWire needs your help here. We have not yet reproduced the 'illegal operation' problem on our machines. Does anyone get this after uninstalling new.net?
