cannot delete song, tried everything I've tried to delete it manually from my computer, tried placing it into recycling bin nothing works. It says that is may be in use by another person or application. Also in my library it lists 3 locations whereas the others list 0. i have no problems with any other songs except, "the roots-don't say anything" Please help |

Close Windows Media Player / Real Player (or any other media playing programs), your 'Shared' folder, Recycle Bin, anything that might be using the file, and delete it from LimeWire by going to the 'Library' tab and then you can find it and delete it completely from your hard drive (make sure to remember the file name before you go to find it in the Library). |

Removing songs from LimeWire I have the same problem, when I try to delete song from my Library, it keeps telling me being used by another program. I have checked and have no other programs running. I did the Control, alt, delete and there is nothing running. Still cannot delete song from Library. Any help would be great. Thanks Lindalee |

The files may be being uploaded by another user. For future versions, we will kill any associated uploads before attempting to delete the file -- but for now, go to the Monitor tab and manually kill the uploads before deleting the file. |

pixxipink19, Lindalee If you have shut down the media players as Un*registered suggested you should then also shut down Limewire and then go to the directory where the files are stored and manually delete them. Norm |

Items that won't delete/reappear OK, this seems to be quite a common problem and several posts have been made on the matter and all seem to be viewed quite a few times. I have a slightly different version of the problem: files that delete but reappear at the next startup of my computer. I have Norton Anti-Virus and have done several scans without positive results. I also have used SpyBot but nothing new has appeared. I have also begun to notice that whenever I do a search, a file of that name appears and it is always an exe. This happens even if the file I look for is 'wigglyquerdo'! It seems clear someone or something is targeting my computer/searches. I guess in the past I have done searches and, not being careful, thought I have found what I am looking for and started downloading an exe. Can someone (preferably from LimeWire!) suggest what to do? Can I also suggest that LimeWire highlight exe or other such files in RED so that people can be very cautious of downloading them? |

It's not just you getting the exe files in your searches. It's been discussed on this forum before. I suggest yo go to your filters (LW menu-Tools-Options-Filters / for MacOS: LW Prefs/Filters) & enter the keyword .exe & press Apply. This should eradicate these unwanted items from your search results. There's a no. of threads about related subjects, one is : Quality of Content on the Network: (the 6th post on the page) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&pagenumber=12 & see the adjoining link. I think I saw it mentioned somewhere that these items are autoreleased (so to speak) by certain parties that detect searches along the Gnutella network. They will be related to the article in the above link. Files like you mentioned that mysteriously reappear, definitely sound like spyware/viruses. Perhaps a pc person on this forum can give you a decent answer about how to rid of them. In the meantime see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=26605 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=26903 |

FedUpwithThis, Lord Of The Rings gave you very good advice on executable files. Unless you are looking for them filter them out. Everyone experiences it. As to files showing up after you delete them you might make sure files are deleted from both the Limewire incomplete folder and the download cue. If you don't Limewire will start downloading files from the download cue automatically when you restart. If it completes them they will be moved to your download folder. It it doesn't they will show up in your incomplete folder. Norm |

About the problem of getting the message that the file is in use ... have you LAUNCHED it to preview it as it was downloading? If you have did you STOP or PAUSE it? If you PAUSED it even tho you killed the download it is still "in use". I went thru this and almost tore what little hair I had left. I tried deleting it from the Command Prompt and got the same message. THEN I noticed that the file giving me this problem was one I had LAUNCHED using the LIMEWIRE player. After rebooting it will delete. I began using WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER as my preview program. When you [X] out of WMP you can then delete the file with no problem |

cannot delete song, tried everything Thanks Norm, but I have made sure to delete both at the download prompt as well as in the incomplete files. I keep expecting the next time I get NAV updates for Norton to find the bugger that is doing this but it still hasn't! |
