Limewire 2.8.5 chatting with 4.0.5 doesn't work
 

How come chatting between these two clients is disabled event when there is a little orange chat smiley? (I wanted to tell the other person to upgrade!)

Probably because the 2.8.5 client is firewalled and maybe you too on port 6346. Newer Limewires advertise the chat buttons only when they are unfirewalled, but this wasn't the case in 2.8.5.

To check if you are firewalled: options-bug reports-see an exemple-Received incoming this session:
-if true you are not firewalled
-if false you are firewalled somehow.

could someone not burry that so far, maybe put it at the top since it is so VITAL to open source sharing? or put it in the title bar of limewire?

Salut Fungi14, I've made a request to LW team (there is a 4.1/4.2 request thread in the forums -you can do a search about it-) so they put a little light in the gui indicating wether you are firewalled or not. We'll see if it will be included in 4.1 betas. At least you are in the 30% unfirewalled nodes, 70% are sadly firewalled and this slows download speeds a lot :(

I can't seem to chat with barely anyone now...wonder why? I do manage to chat with a few rude little jerks though.

Someone started downloading from me a song, and I asked them if we could chat...they said one thing, "no"

Right when the download finished I told them one more thing "just to let you know I almost killed your upload"

I mean why would you be so harsh to someone giving you something...for FREE at that! "no", couldn't they say "I really don't want to chat right now but thankyou for the file"? I mean come ON guys, just because you can't see the person you are sharing with doesn't mean they don't have fealings. All I wanted to know is if they liked the same stuff as me, and if they were local. That's it...can't a guy strike up a conversation anymore!

Well I guess limewire cannot detect my external ip address like a good little client should be able to.

Ps. I DONT think a light would help. I think right in the title bar it should be in very ledgable warning red "YOU ARE FIREWALLED" and have a link to how they can solve their issue.
