Default strange solution for 4.0.8 instability

After installing and uninstalling and re-installing both Limewire 4.0.8 and java numerous times, I had no luck fixing pro's instability on my comp. It would spit out numerous error codes, lock-up, crash, etc.
It was horribly unstable, it would work, sort of, for a few days then take a nose dive.

But I discovered, while trying something else, that clicking on Limewire.jar INSTEAD of Limewire.exe launches the program and it works perfectly! Why should that work?

Now it works great as long as I launch the .jar instead of .exe. strange.

(p.s when it was unstable, the text in some columns were out of alignment and the options window would open without the "apply" buttons visible)

Default Thank'ee young zurrr.

Why the prog. works properly when accessed thru the .jar file but not the .exe is beyond me - but - IT WORKS.

I've had the same problems in both 4.0.7 (my first try with L/W) and now 4.0.8 and have spent countless hours going thru these forums trying to find a solution - hence my reply to your previous post. Was very close to abandoning L/W altogether but there is much about it that I like. Will monitor closely for a week or two and see how it goes.

Surely by ver.0.8 there should be less problems?

Call me picky if you wish but I prefer "Uninstall" to do just that - not leave me chasing .dll's and playing around in the registry!!

Default strange solution

Wow! I have been working on this for hours and this solved almost everything. Connection problems, and the very frustrating options (lack of apply button) problems and the out of alignment text problems. Thank'ee sai. Did you notice that it conects through java instead of lime wire? Could that have been the problem? Zone alarm alerted me that it was javaw.exe accessing the net not lime wire. You are awsome thank you so much for the discovery.

yes limewire connects through java to use the internet, this is why java is so important

Default java or not to java

I know that it runs on java but if I acces the .jar file zonealarm tells me that java is trying to access the internet, but when I access the regular limewire Icon zonealarm tells me that limewire is accessing the internet. Any idea what the difference is? Can I check the 'remember this setting' box or is it unsafe because other people could use java? Why does the .jar file work more smoothly? Either way it works for me so thanks again.

nic

PS do I need to allow server access to let others access my 1163 files?

when you double click on the jar file it uses java. limewire needs java to run properly. <-- that's all I know about that.

that should already be included if you allow LW.jar
