corupted files???

Why so many corrupted files and why always at the bitter end of the DL? Is this a new protection scheme?

Lord of the Rings September 5th, 2004 05:47 PM

They must be political files. Files can already be corrupted at the source (& there's many of them out there) & there's not much u can do about them except try dwnlding from different sources or options in your search results.

Sometimes files can become corrupted during the dwnlding stage. This means there's data missing or similar. This may result from dropped connection along the way, data clashing, etc. At the end of the dwnlding process, LW attempts to redwnld those bits & bytes that are incorrect or missing. If LW didn't have this process, you'd just end up with even moe corrupted files w/o you knowing about it until you attempted to utilise them.

reply to LOR

Thanks for the info LOR. The problems I'm having most trouble with are new hit MP3's, hence my quirey regarding copy protection. Also I just added SP2 which I'm thinking seriously of removing.

Always suspicious

Yeah some people have definitely been having probs with SP2. There is a quickpatch for it but this patch may not necessarily fix your prob. There's bound to be several more patches out for sp2 (do a search on the forum for sp2 & you'll find a link to the patch - I posted it yesterday.)

Yes you could be right about the mp3's. If MS has anything to do with them then they may well be copyright protected. From what I've heard (& I might be wrong) that at least some of those mp3 sources's you purchase over the net are copyright protected. I don't know how that works.

But then, there may also be bad sources out thre that are offering corrupted files on purpose/not. If you know the source you could block them.

Still suspicious

It's definately the new ones and I tried as many as 6 sources, some with slightly different file sizes or bit rates. Only thing I can't figure is why the sources keep their coppies on line. Do you suppose M$ are flooding the servers with with **** coppies to discourage us? This is all since SP2 as well. When I shift back to SP1 I'll let ya know how the war go!

I took it out

Well I took out SP2 and no difference, I still can't download Certain MP3's. Anyone else in this boat?

Sorry

I fixed it. Tried again today and still all corrupted. Any answers?

stupididiot69er September 18th, 2004 11:56 AM

did you try getting all the files that relate to what you want. there's gotta be a good one in there somewhere

Renoman September 18th, 2004 01:13 PM

Tried on winmx

Tried on winmx and had no trouble. I tried 10 different bit rates on limewire on 4 separate days and no luck. Something's odd.
