HELP please what the hell is Xvid ??

I get these video files that have no sound any ideas on what player I should use , or are they bad files

dead.like.me.s02e08.the.escape.artist.hdtv.xvid-vfua.avi
dead_like_me.2x01.send_in_the_clown.hdtv_xvid-fov.avi

Have a look at these links (click me.) XviD is a derivative of DivX. You'll need to get the codec to play them back properly (see links.)

Perhaps the instructions on http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ will be easier to understand. Also see the FAQ.
