Limewire and XP SP2 I have XP SP2 and Limewire 4.1.8 will not launch. I uninstall and reinstall the program and then it will launch one time only. When I try to launch it again it gives me the message to send message to Microsoft. I am not sure if I have firewall enabled or not since I have Norton Antivirus 2005 managing or enhancing my system. Anyone have any suggestions? |
Try trashing the LW prefs folder found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire See if it'll open now. If you can, then do this test (click on link) & tell us whether your result is true/false. SP2 is known to change settings & limits net access. Have you applied any patches for it? |
Still Does Not Work I did what you told me to do and deleted the folder in Documents & Settings and Limewire still will not launch. |
Salut, update java to 1.5 (take the JRE) http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp Then launch LW. Bonne chance! |
Still No Luck I downloaded the latest version of Java with the above link and installed it and still Limewire does not want to launch. Any more suggestions? |
We don't have any messages that tell you to send things to Microsoft. What is the message you're seeing? |
Error Message To Microsoft The standard Microsoft box that pops up asking you if you wish to send an error report to Microsoft and you have a choice if you want to send it or not send it. |
Sounds suspiciously like a problem with some garbage having been D/Led and installed (probably inadvertantly). And, the so-called "message from M$" sounds especially like some nasty little app. has been planted in the maching, hmmm ? In other words, probably nothing to do with LimeWire... Wonder if the message says that the user is under risk due to inadequate anti-virus... blah blah blah Norton will not always catch that type of garbage... Adaware might... ? You also cannot 'manually' remove stuff like that unless you really do know what you are doing as far as Registry entries... Last... XP SP2 makes numerous changes to many things... I have seen Norton Internet Security / A-V settings considerably altered by the install of SP2... |
Thinking of Dumping Limewire Well as far as I am concerned if I can't get this problem solved I will dump Limewire and stick with eDonkey 2000 and BitTorrent. Don't need all the headaches that go along with it. The above 2 programs are working fine for me---the problem just seems to be with Limewire. |
Finally Got Limewire To Launch I finally got Limewire to launch by right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000. Has to be a bug in Limewire where it doesn't automatically launch in XP2. |
