Question Wont play movies

When I try to play the downloaded movie, it will open up Windows Media Player, then it will say, "WMP cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."
What do I need to download or do???

Video files can be in many formats, rafael619sd, and one alternative to acquiring additional codecs for Windows Media Player is to download additional media players. I've got two extra players which can be downloaded free as follows:- http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and http://www.tucows.com/preview/195040.html I've not come across a video format that these will not play. It's useful to right click on your downloaded video files, and iinstruct them to open with the correct player.

I have just posted a new thread in another section regarding movies that won't play. Every avi file will not play, but my error message says "file format not supported". I have tried every media player including videolan, and I still cannot play them.
Thought I would post a reply here as well, as it appears I am not alone.
Hopefully somebody will be able to help .

They are all .avi files, but I just discovered something. I haven't been watching the file size, and everyone of them. although they say that it is for a full movie, and give the length as , say, 89 mins, when completed they are only about 130 mg. How can this be, or am I not seeing the wood for the trees?

As you may have already read somewhere else here within the forums, you must be very cautious with D/Ling files... There are many quite bad scams and cons and nasties out there...
Movies - .avi files and such - are usually very close to 700MB.
There are some complete full-length movies out there that are just a bit larger than 500MB, but they are fairly rare.

Thanks Ursula, you have confirmed what I was thinking, and I am usually very careful , but I must admit, I have not come across this in any of the other p2p programs I have used over the last 4 years.
I think I neeed to be very careful here.
