Default newbie here--upgraded java but am having problems

I just started with limewire about a week ago. I have Windows ME on an older computer. I had no problem installing it, running it, or downloading, but occassionally my computer would freeze--not just lw but everything. I kept having to ctl-alt-delete to reboot.
I was looking around for help and saw that I should upgrade from java 1.3 to 1.4, so I did that. Now the computer doesn't freeze, but lw runs EXTREMELY slow. It downloads fine once I can get to that point. It boots and connects fine, but every action I try to take, takes up to 10 minutes!
Any suggestions? Thank you!

How much RAM & available hard disk space do you have? Try diong a general computer mainenance: check your system over, & very important to Defragment your hard disk drive. Sometimes it can make a massive difference.

I scanned and defragged, no noticeable difference.
I've got 4.71 GB of hard drive space (it's about half full) and a measly 63 MB of RAM. I assume that's my problem?

joyrider,

I suspect a good part of your problem is low RAM. Try shutting down any programs or processes you don't absolutely need before running Limewire. Also in Limewire go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, UPLOADS and set the upload bandwidth slider to about midway.

Good luck,

Norm

Thanks for your help, guys.
When I get the chance I will add more memory to this poor machine and see if that helps!
