Default GUI interface look not similar to screenshots

So i just spent 18 dollars on this java app that really LOOKS like a java app when i run it on Windows XP. The screenshots on the main limewire website make the app look more like most windows apps and not some piece of garbage java app.

Has anyone else even noticed this?! There must be a way to get the limewire app to look like the screenshots on thier website.

please, someone help me, i feel like i am going to throw up this looks so ugly.

Did you download the latest version of LimeWire from the offical LimeWire site ? Mabey the screenshots are old and just haven't been updated recently? Or mabey you are just using a jenky theme. Go to view>apply skins to view the list of skins or go here to get different themes/skins. I think that the LW GUI looks nice... Good luck.

Default GUI interface

OK, ill be a tad bit more specific.

Here are the things that differ between the screenshots and the actual interface.

1.The Tab highlight does not exist in the version i have. In the screenshot each tab is highlighted with an orange bar, like a normal windows XP tab would be highlighted. Furthermore I am missing the "connections" tab.

2. When searching for "any type" the color of areas around the dialog box is lighter in the screenshot than in mine, regardless of which "skin" is applied. The button that says "search" is rounded like a normal XP button in the screenshot however in my installation it is squared off and looks ugly.

3. While looking through a list of searches, on the screenshots it shows the icon for windows media player (assuming that this is your default player fcor mp3s) whereas on mine it just has some dinky squared off icon with a musical note in it.

4. It seems like all the text that is used is a common java text type as opposed to the standard windows XP font used within apps (Tahoma and Trebuchet).

I have browsed through the "skins" section - none of these screenshots look anywhere similar to those provided at:
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...eenshots.shtml

IN GENERAL, i have used many Java apps, the always seem to look the same - they have an old and outdated look and feel - like using a wi*** app in win98 kinda thing. In the screenshots limwire looks to be like most winxp apps in that it follows the same styles and behaviors as a normal XP app (with the correct tab colorizations, fonts, shaded colors etc) These aspects are in NO WAY controlled by what "skin" you are using as these seem to only change the colorizations from stark blue to organe and black etc...

NOTE: i AM using the PRO version, 4.2.4

Where are these screenshots coming from??? Why doesn't limewire look like this when you install it?!?!

Re: Norm's point see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/skins.shtml That will show you available skins.

1. Go to LW's menu View>Show/Hide & select Connections or any other.
2. Actually the search button does change shape with different skins.
3. ? Not sure what you mean.
4. I might be wrong but I thought LW 4.2 brought in the ability to change font for display.

I use mac which has better graphic design than the windows version. I haven't checked out the newer 4.2 but will shortly.

LimeWire can use various skins that change the way it is displayed. One of these skins is the "Windows theme", which will make it look like a Windows program. The screenshots on the website are from LimeWire using the Windows theme. You can change the skin by choosing View -> Apply Skins -> "Windows Theme". LimeWire Pro by default uses the "LimeWire Pro" theme. So to make it look like XP you'll need to change it to the Windows one.

Other stuff you might also want to check (but try changing the skin first, that's the easiest)...

The English installer is needed to view LimeWire as it looks on the website. This is because the international installer uses an older version of Java that doesn't have full support for the XP look.

Try also going to java.com and making sure that your version of Java is up to date. You will need version 1.4.2 or above to see the true Windows XP look. Java 1.5 (only available from java.sun.com right now) has the best XP support, although 1.4.2's is also very good.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. In the end it turned out that updating to the JRE runtime 5.0 solved the problem.
I am now comforted by sexy looking XP graphics that makes me very happy

thanks again
