LW is Unresponsive

Im on XP SP1, I have downloaded Java 1.4.2 and have LW 4.2.5 installed. But it just doesn't want to work! It's very erratic in it's operation.

When I load it up I get the set-up window, but sometimes the window is totally blank. When it does actually display the config options the buttons remain responsive for a few seconds and then lock.

I can close this window and then get into the main program, then the same happens, the buttons work for a few seconds and then it all freezes up. Sometimes this window is blank with grey as well.

Any ideas?

I wonder if at all your problem is related to this problem & solution (click on link.)

Thanks, but no, it's just totally unresponsive, I can't do what the post suggests. The rare occasions I can actually get something to appear in the window it just doesn't do anything. It doesn't lock my PC either.

Are you running many other apps simultaneously? How much ram do you have?

Try deleting LW's preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

I've got an Athlon64 3500+ and 1Gig of PC3200 RAM so I doubt that should be an issue. I tried deleting the prefs folder to no avail and also reinstalled LW to no effect!

Well it's got me beat. All I could suggest is to install Java 1.5 It solves some peoples problems but for some others not. Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

How many (a) incompletes, (b)shared files do you have? Do you often use the Resume button. The resume function can be effective but if used on too many files can cause havoc. Both with connection quality & with files queueing for many times longer than normal. Searching for files manually is both more effective, better for the gnutella network & for your LW setup.
