Limewire running VERY slowly Ever since I upgraded to 4.2.6, Limewire is extremely slow. I ctrl-alt-del and see that it's taking over 50% of "CPU Usage" Everything in the program happens at a delayed time, IE it takes a while for typing to show up in search boxes, and it takes a while for a dropdown to appear when I click "File" for example. Anything in particular I should try? PS. I've never had this problem before with 4.2.5 I'm running WinXP 3+GHz 512RAM Shouldn't be a computer spec issue. |

there's alot you can look into on that. what have you checked so far? one thing i tend to forget (but not lately anymore) is the processor scheduling in control panel>system>advanced>performance>advanced. sometimes mine just switches on its own top favor background processes & i have to switch it back to get nimble again. google for shareaza's forum & look at the performance enhancing tweak thread- lotsa tips there for general pc tuning |

I have P4 2.4 ghz and 512 mb RAM with Limewire 4.2.6 and it runs fine. Make sure you have the latest version of the Java Virtual Machine. Go here to get the latest Java VM: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp I recommend downloading the offline installation. Also, make sure you regularly defrag your computer and clean the registry. I don't have the URL to download good defrag programs and registry cleaners right now. But if you want it you can PM or email me. |

Same problem here. Same description of what is occuring. I have the latest java and defrag my system regularly so we can rule that out. I also have a 3.4 Ghz system with 512... Must be another issue...if you find the problem please let me know. Feels like I am moving underwater when using it |

Thanks BF but I do a regular scan with Webroots Spysweeper and use DiskKeeper to keep my hard drive optimized every night. I don't have any Spyware or virus. My Java machine is java. I seem to have found some further info on this problem. If I leave it running for 30 minutes or longer (approx) and come back the program is running smooth and fast. Thanks for you help...any more ideas? |

This is a weird. This shouldn't happen on a fast machine. Are you using WinXP? In WinXP, right click on my computer->go to properties->advanced->performance settings->advanced. Then make sure processor scheduling and memory usage are set to 'Programs'. Also, make sure you are not running in compatibility mode. (right click my computer and check the compatibility tab.) Spysweeper is a great antispyware, but you can also add ad-aware and spybot to your collection to make sure your system is clean. (make sure they are updated before running a full scan). After running a full scan, make Spybot 'immunize your system'. A good registry cleaner can also clean computer slowdowns and frequent crashes. If that still doesn't fix it. I could recommend some more advanced tweaks that may require other programs. I have tons of tweaking stuff/info here in my comp. Last edited by BunkFace; December 23rd, 2004 at 03:30 AM. |

Well I do use the other two Spyware cleaners as well. I typically use SpyBot once a week or so, AdAware as well, they both catch different stuff I have learned. Like I said, I use DidkKeeper to keep my sytstem optimized and it really runs fast on all other programs, including Fifa 2005 with graphics turned up high. I have seen this game kill a 2Mhz machine dead with the graphics set to high. I must be an issue with java I think. But I do not know... |

Which version of Java are you using? The later the better. But on some people's systems one version works better than another! Java 1.4.2 (click on link) Java 1.5 (take the JRE) By the way did you try something basic like deleting your LW preferences folder? If you do try it, make a note of all your LW settings 1st b/c you'll need to reset them. Locate .limewire found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire for Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP. Or for Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents" Unless you have a great connection & want to be an ultrapeer, why not disable this: Tools>Options>Speed & tick the Disable Ultrapeer abilities option. And then press the Apply button. You may also want to reduce your uplds to about say 80%. Do NOT use the Resume function on many files if any. Doing it on too many files WILL result in your files being queued for much, much greater periods of time. It will also give LW's connection quality some testing. It will also use up much/most of LW's resources & ram & make it very slow (as well as your comp.) After opening LW, depending on how many incomplete files AND how many files you share, wait some time before doing things with LW. LW needs time to load these files & settle down after initially trying to connect with sources at the same time. If you're not using particular windows then close them. eg: Connections window or monitor window. Another good idea to reduce ram & resources upon LW is to set dwnlds for Auto-clear Completed dwnlds. Just a thought or two! |

You should write a FAQ response for this...you are very helpful troubleshooting LW. Thanks again. |
