Monster files I have downloaded numerous files expecting good musac, only to find some of filesize in excess of 1Gb and with titles such as Interpol 'Evil'. On playing, the music ends after a short while being followed by very lengthy periods of silence. I'm sure that this is not new and it is probably some jerks idea of good fun, but it is a pain in the ****. I've tried 'searching' but not even sure what search criteria to use. Any advice welcome re both prevention and cure. I'm using Limewire Pro 4.2.5 in Windows XP. |
1 Attachment(s) I'm not sure how you can expect music to be beyond or even near 1 GB!!! Sounds like a movie at the least! Have you tried you r video player to see if it can play it? See this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28801 & oh so doesn't hurt! By the way I've dwnlded a video file A& found out it was an mp3, simply bt changing it's extension to mp3. The same principle might be applied to some mp3 files that are actually video files. |
monster files Thanks, Lord of the Rings. The files are definitely audio files in mp3 format, play for a short while (in Winamp) then run silently for an age. Clicking on properties shows them to be in excess of 1 Gb and when deleted, the overall size of my My Music folder reduces by an amount which confirms the files Gigabyte status. Since posting the thread I've been told by Master Dogbreath that he has experienced the same phenomenon on his p.c. whilst downloading using Bearshare. I think I've experienced it at least a dozen times. If anyone else out there has had a similar experience, please post, if for no other reason to demonstrate to Lord of the Rings that my sanity is intact!:D |
dogbreath, Have you checked the file with Gspot ? That usually gives a good answer about what the file actually is. |
Gspot Thanks for the interest RaaF. I've not run one of these files past Gspot but if I happen across another monster file I sure will- and I'll repost with the results. Cheers!:) |
Large MP3 Files Dear LW People It seems that posting large files, disguised as video clips, that turn out to nothing more than MP3s must be someone’s idea of a joke. I downloaded a hundred plus megabyte file last week that I thought would not play because I did not have the right codec installed. However, when I ran GSpot over it, to find out which codec I needed, I found that this extra large file was nothing more than an MP3 file. It must take a lot of effort to carry out such a stupid practical joke, effort that would be better spent getting a life. UK Bob |
monster files Bobboy01, I'm glad you've found these too, if you know what I mean. And, yup, agree entirely, these tosspots should get a life. |
I guess we could try to overcome it by previewing these files before completing the dwnlds. I mean if launching them won't allow us to play them, then use the drag & drop feature that's been added to LW. ie: D & D to another app such as audio/video player (or I wonder if you could use GSpot the same way.) Or use GSpot on the incomplete file in the incomplete folder. I've never used GSpot so I don't know whether it can be used on incomplete files, etc. See Drag & Drop ability |
