Limewire closes immediately Ok, I just got sbc yahoo dsl today and downloaded the latest version of Limewire a little while after. It worked fine for a while, and I downloaded a few songs. I had to restart the computer while installing other things, and when I tried to go back to Limewire, it would open, the update option thing would pop up, I'd try to connect, and then it would just close. I've tried again and again, same thing. I installed the new version of java, I think it was called 4. something. That didn't work. Then I downloaded another version of java called 5. something. Still nothing. I'm using Windows XP and Limewire Basic not Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
problem solved (sorta) I turned off the parental controls that come with sbc yahoo dsl, restarted, tried again, and it's fine. I don't understand why the parental controls have an effect on my account since I'm the administrative account, but whatever works for now. But that means the kiddies in the house are unmonitored, at least when Limewire is being used, so if anyone knows a better solution, please help. |
Depending on what your children normally downld (presumably music), you can add & remove keyword filters. Recommended would be .exe, .jpg, & .wmv Go to Tools>Options>Filters>Keyword & type in these words one by one & press Add each time. It would mean you may need to remove them each time you use it. If LW is in your Admin account. Can't you make it so it's read only (ie: changes would need an admin password)? I'm not a windows user per se so I'm not sure about this. I should imagine you should be able to protect LW's option changes some way like this. If they have their own user account folder, then are you able to lock the LW preferences folder so no changes can be made? |
Yes, I have locked limewire on their accounts, and put all the filters on. But the problem isn't with limewire, it's with dsl's parental controls. I don't know why, but when I activate parental controls, Limewire closes on me. It shouldn't affect anything I do, but for some reason it does. Now that I know that the problem isn't with Limewire, I should probably be talking to sbc's tech support, but I was hoping someone on here might've found a solution to this already. Tech support is so annoying. |
