Default Limewire / Itunes intergration

I'm sure that this has been discussed but can't find a solution.

My LW folder in Itunes will not allow me to drag and drop files into play lists, surely this should be possible. I understand that this is because these files are not yet added to the itunes library but it's a real pain to add files individually (having to browse the entire shared folder) and when I add the entire folder my songs are often duplicated.

I can right click on a file in the itunes LW folder and the option to copy is given but later no option to paste in to the library.

Idealy all my LW downloads would automatically be in my itunes library.

Hope someone can advise.

Buy a mac & all your problems are solved! lol Of course mac osx has the ability to have iTunes import the songs directly from LW.

I have discovered that you can create playlists within LW & save them as m3u files. You can import these LW playlists to iTunes. The songs will have their own playlist & but also appear within the main library playlist. However, you can also import the songs themseves into iTunes main library by going to iTunes menu>Advanced>Consolidate & this will copy the actual files to iTunes own library (as compared to a reference.) I'm guessing the same could or should be able to be done with the Limewire playlist that appears in iTunes. Try it! I suggested trying something similar to this a few months back but never got a response as to whether it worked or not. At present I can't try it out.

The below example refers to consolidating a LW m3u playlist file imported into iTunes.

Thanks for this. Are you sure that you can selectively consolidate folders though? It says it will consolidate your entire library not a selected folder. And why are 2 of each song in the LW folder?

thanks for your help

OK sorry let me clarify that for you. I'm using a mac computer but I can use windows (win 2k) by using a program called virtual pc. It runs at something like 20 - 30 MHz at my estimation so you can imagine how slow it is.

The image I showed you is of the main library which started off with 2 copies of the same file plus the Chain playlist. So those other 2 identical files were already there by my laziness to wait to create other files, etc. due to its speed, etc.

But the principle of what I said works. You can import songs from LW via a playlist & then consolidate the library & the physical songs themselves are copied to the iTunes library folders. What I uggest is you try the same principle with the LW Playlist. If possible please give us some feedback I'd like to know if it works or not. My windows version LW is not actually connected to the net so I can't replicate it (unless I put some files into the LW dwnld folder by myself.)

Oh yes I did forget about your question about selective folders. No I don't think it can.

When you consolidate iTunes library it copies all audio files to iTunes library that are within playlists in iTunes but are not themselves within iTunes library folders on the Hard Disk Drive.
