Question LimeWire display problems.

I'm trying again to post my message about display problems - this time I'll make sure that I have a copy before trying to view it.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one with problems when viewing the results from searches in LW. - At this point I went to do a search to help me explain the problem, and it didn't seem to occur.

The problem for me seems worse when you are downloading, or have something in the queue. The panel reduces in size and the problem seems worse in the second last entry. That has the green stripe at reduced size and a thin white stripe within it. Both have different text in them making it almost impossible to read.

Sometimes, the distorted text continues to ride up the screen as you scroll, which brings me to another point. There seems no way to scroll the results other than using the scroll-bar. The mouse wheel doesn't work, nor do the Page Up/Down keys. One of my problems is a shaky hand, so trying to keep the mouse pointer on the scroll arrow is often a problem.

If no-one else has seen this problem, at least it will tell me that I need to sort out my graphics card, but that seems to handle many similar situations in other apps ok.

All the best,
Chris P

Greetings crispy,

This may be caused by several things, but without knowing certain information it is hard to help. Would you please provide the following information.

Computer type & CPU
Operating Sysytem & sp
LimeWire Version
Java Version
FireWalls
Modem
Router

This information may be needed in your other threads also.

I think I read of it happening to somebody using Linux.

Can you possibly provide a snapshot of it. If you're using Win XP there should be a utility that allows you to take snapshots of designated areas. Otherwise use the printscreen on your keyboard. Include it as an attachment.

WHich version of LW are you using? WHich version of Java do you have?

The other way to arrange files is to click (or double-click which will reverse the order) on the column headings so you can arrange them alphabetically by filename or Status or File Type or Size or Speed or Time, etc.

Fabion just beat me to the button! lol

That's okay LotR:

I'm thinking it may be Java related. When I first got LW I had a similar problem with scrolling. When I updated the Java version I could scroll with the wheel.

I think Java version 1.5 (take the JRE) is suppose to give much better support for the issue you were refering to.

Thanks guys for the responses on this one.

Requested sys info:
Computer type & CPU: Special build with AMD Athlon 1200
Operating Sysytem & sp: Win Me 4.90.3000
LimeWire Version: 4.2.6 Pro
Java Version: 1.3.1.04
FireWalls: ZoneAlarm 5.5.062.004
Modem/Router: Speedtouch 530

Thanks for the Java link - that was another point I meant to make about LimeWire. At least twice a day, a message flashes up about the Java version, asking if I want to update it. There are three buttons and none of them seem to do anything. The first two are 'Yes' and 'Why' both of which I've tried, but without results.

When I do some downloads later, I'll try to do a print of the poblem.

All the best,
Chris P

Your Java is out of date! You should update it to either version 1.4.x OR version 1.5 (take the JRE)

By the way I'd guess not many people upload from you because you have a modem with an internal firewall. Have you forwarded port 6346 for it? If not seeSpeedtouch 530 port forwarding & use port 6346 & static ip. That's if you want to.

I also presume your firewall is configured to allow LW full access? ZoneAlarm instructions

LW 4.4.1 also overcomes some bugs that were in LW 4.2.6 : http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Thanks for the added info, I'm trying to work my way through it.

I've installed the later version of Java (15MB is some download), and I've looked for a newer version of LimeWire. Am I missing something? Both the link you provided and the one sent to me when I got the Pro version still talk about 4.2.6 as being the current version.

ZoneAlarm was already configured for LW, but I shall have to look at the SpeedTouch information. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The port forwarding information got very heavy when I started looking into it, I wonder how many users actually take that route.

My, even vaguely active, day starts at around 0500 and ends soon after 1100, this is all too much for the evening. I've spent two hours following all the different links, I had four different pages open at one time, so I think a fresh look in the morning might be a good idea.

Night all,
Chris P

I know the link says 4.2.6 but trust me. Downld from it. The installer is smaller than the one you used for 4.2.6

I just read a note that 4.4.2 has just been released; see: THIS (click on link)
