The only option available is "use my current virtual machine for java".

In the control panel, on the left hand side there is a link to "other control panel options" and in there is the Java Control Panel. But when I click it a pop-up box opens up but it is solid grey with the Java Control Panel title at the top with the minimize and close buttons. I have tried versions 1.4.2 and 1.5 and can't get either one to work. It's starting to p!ss me off cause everything was working fine the last time I used Limewire (about a week ago). I have defragged, scanned for viruses and spyware and found no problems.

Well I just found a way to see the text in the java applets and limewire. After I open the program I right click and select minimize. Then when limewire is in the system tray I right click on the icon and select restore and the text appears but the program is locked up and won't respond. This is getting frustrating.

Hi scar69,

[edit -- The DOS window must be active when hitting CTRL-Break, not the LimeWire window.]

If you could download the file LimeWireDebug at http://www.limewire.org/LimeWireDebug.exe . Place it in your LimeWire folder (C:\Program Files\LimeWire) and then double-click on it to start LimeWire. It will open a DOS-box while LimeWire is open so that we can see debug information.

After the box opens, click on the top-left of it and choose 'Properties'. Select the 'Layout' tab in the window that pops up. In this screen, change the 'Height' value in the 'Screen Buffer Size' area to something really large (like 900) and click 'OK' Then click 'OK' on the box that comes up after that (it doesn't matter which radio-button is selected).

Once you've done that, assuming that LimeWire is already in this 'greyed-out' state, make sure the DOS window is active (select it) and then hit Ctrl & Break on your keyboard. The Break key is generally on above 'Page Up', and the key usually says 'Pause' & 'Break' on the same key. Hitting that Ctrl/Break should cause a bunch of stuff to be printed out to the DOS box that opened up.

You can select all that text by clicking the top-left icon in the DOS box again and choose Edit->Mark, then click where the text begins and drag down and to the right until the text ends. It should be highlighted in white. After it's highlighted, click the top-left icon again and choose Edit->Copy. After it's copied, if you could paste the text here, it will be very helpful in figuring out what's going wrong.

My apologies for the extremely long and confusing steps to follow -- I don't know offhand of any easier way to get the information we need right now, but we'll look into ways to make it easier for the future.

Thanks.

There isn't anything obvious in that output as to why you'd be having this problem. Can you try downloading the latest version of LimeWire (even if you think you already have it) and seeing if this continues?

Thanks.

Well, I've tried both the free version 4.4.2 and the Pro version 4.4.2 and still get the same result. After the installation is completed I open Limewire and the language selection box opens up but it is completely grey with the title and X button at the top. I am beginning to think that it is not a problem with limewire but instead there is a conflict or corruption with the java application. Something is preventing java from running or installing properly and I don't have a freakin' clue as to what it could be.

It sounds as though you're right, scar69. Has LimeWire ever worked on your machine? If so, do you recall if anything changed between the time it did & didn't? You might also want to try updating your video drivers.

Ya, I've had Limewire Pro for about 4-5 months with no problems until yesterday. The last time I used it (about a week ago), it was working fine. I don't remember making any changes or installing anything new on my computer since then so now I'm really clueless about what could be the cause of all this. Perhaps I'll see where my last system restore point is and go back to that and see if that works. Thanks for your help everyone!!!

System Restore didn't work either. I couldn't even get Limewire to open up after going back to a couple different dates. Anybody have any suggestions?
