Everybody has their favourites. But if you want one with in-built codecs & is free then get VLC. See: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34465 LW will launch whichever is your defaut program for that file-type. See link.

I looked at the link you gave me
what does 'outside of LW' mean?
any further help on enabling VLC would be much appreciated
thanks

Have a look at the example in the link I gave you. It means don't do it from LW. Do it from a folder on your desktop. Otherwise it won't work.

LW = Limewire
VLC = VideoLAN

VLC is the name of the program. Its old name was VideoLAN but they shortened it to VLC so that's its name. It's a video player that has in-built codecs that allow it to play all movie types out there & also many audio formats. It think it can also play audio playlists but never tried it. It's free.

Thanks for that - It was a bit obvious when you think about LW!
Anyway, I think i am starting to understand.
What i want the player for is to preview the files that are downloading mainly to check that they are what they say they are, and to see the quality.
Please tell me if i am wrong, but VLC and the other things that have been menttioned so far do not work within LW

You're obviously pulling my leg! Of course they work! That's why I suggested them. You have a link to instructions about how to make them the default app. If they are the default app for a certain file-type then they will preview it when launched from LW>

before i was thinking that it was just me, and maybe my wording was not the best at explaining what i am trying to do and whats actually happening.
anyway, i need a program that will opperate from inside LW to preview incomplete files.
I followed the instructions in your link, and that is fine - you change all those particular file types. But, working from within LW the preview will not work, and in the options within LW there is no way to make an external program default.
How can i make VLC the default program?

I must learn to read, or at least take more notice,
I have just been back into options and realised what i did in the first place, basically use the computers default player.
Ive tried that again and ive changed it to VLC just like it says in the link you sent me, But nothing will work??? it is like nothing is happening, apart from the hard drive making noises when i press preview.
