Default Adware

Hi,

Adware/Spyware scanner has detected "DownloadWare" as a serious bit of code that should be deleted.

I am using LimeWire 4.0.7.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this please.

Thanks,
Nogd.

Default Adware & Spyware

Nogd

I have used LWPro 4.0.7 on the recent past and have never found any ad or spyware contained in it.

What ad/spyware scanner are you using?

I use and can recommend the following:

Ad-Aware SE (Personal).

Spybot V1.3.

MS Anti-Spyware.

I am sure that LW Folks will back me when I say that these three ad/spyware scanners are the best that are out there at the moment because they not only find ad/spyware they give you the choice of quarantining or deleting this rubbish off your PC.

Mind you, if the scanner that you use can only find ad/spyware without giving you the option to delete them then what you have is probably a rogue spyware scanner, i.e. a cloned rip off that will install spyware on your system.

You probably got the trojan/adware etc from downloading from the Gnutella network.

Stick to downloading license free (uncopyrighted) music. Porn and programs will almost certainly have embedded rubbish that you have unfortunatly experienced!

greetings ukbobboy01, I concur with what you typed.

Hi Nogd, You can search(upper right between f.a.q. and home) for these programs. You can also search for an anti-virus program the same way.

I would also search the forums on what to look for when d/l files.

I would also go ahead and delete what it said to.

I would also recommend upgrading to the newest version of LimeWire.

Limeplugged, It doesn't necessarilay mean she has got a nasty thing from using the "G" network. Matter of a fact I have never gotten a nasty thing from the "G" network, but I do have all the security features on this comp. up and running 24/7, when the comp. is on, and it has caught everything not only from the "G" network, but other programs too.

Best of luck

I also get "downloadware" but it seems to be on the limeware exe, and it only shows up when scaned w/ "noadware"....should i be worried or is this just one of my spybot scanners being too sensitive?

Default Anti-Ad/Spyware

Rubedo

Even though I wrote my views on ad/spyware over six months ago it is still as relevant today as it was back then.

Apart from the three Anti-Spyware products I mentioned in my previous post , most of the others, including the one you've got, are bogus (clones, rip-offs, contains spyware, etc.).

If you do a search for my previous post you will find a link to an article by an anti-spyware specialist that did an evaluation of the anti-spyware apps that are out there. You will be surprised to find out the number of so-called anti-spyware stuff that actually put spyware on your PC.

Change your anti-spyware app to one of the others.
