That's a good answer but I don't think it is accurate. I have been using the last few versions of Pro and it definately seems to stop searching for sources when you are away. If it does not look for new sources the downloads are going to take forever. |

I live dangerously. I turned off all power saving options. Set computer as always on (which it is) never shut off HDD, monitor. disable hibernation. Set screen saver to 840 minutes. ( I don't know why this number except my screensaver never comes up ) Refresh all searches before I go to bed. -----Stop kicking holes in the Lifeboat! |

AFAIK, LW stops looking for sources whe it displays the following statuses: "Need More Sources" (1) "Awaiting Sources" (2) (supposing you don't get the even less desireable statuses like "Couldn't move to Library" and others) In both cases, you have to reinitialise the search yourself if you want your dld to have a chance aat continuing. In case (1) however, you can press the "Find more sources" button and LW will look for sources for 300 secs. Also (unless I'm mistaken), if you close LW with that status on your dlds and the reopen it, it will try to find some sources. (2) is a more terminal case, where LW has "given up" looking for sources and you have to do it yourself with a manual search. Now, please don't start with the usual rant of: "Man, other P2P do this by themselves" and "Why the hell doesn't LW do it? I'm not a babysitter!" 'cause the why's have been answered before. all you have to do for some answers is search with the search function the LW section of the forums. Cheers

I have my screensaver up and after 10 mins of screensaver images, the display turns completely off (kinda like a sleep mode). LW stays on though: the comp itself doesn't sleep.

actually screensavers don't ease the burden on your system, nor are they really necessary if you have a Flatscreen monitor. They are there for CRT (cathode ray tube) screens, if you have a high contrast image, like white text on a dark field, the guns are bombarding the phosphorous coating with ions and over a period of time will permanantly burn the image on the picture tube. it's actually surprising how many screensavers aren't proper screensavers. If there is a non-moving area, like the coral in the MS underwater ss, that is still going to burn into a CRT. just a tidbit. |
