Sudden Re-boot

Hey all,

I too have been using LW for quite some time and never had any problems up till now. Just downloaded the lastest version 4.8 and i also am running into the problem with the sudden re-boot. It ONLY happens when i run LW......also when it re-boots, LW is automatically running....causing a second reboot if i don't shut it down in time. Any suggestions ??? :)

Hmmm In LW tools>options>advanced>system startup --- uncheck --- run on system startup --- click apply then ok

Also if you don't use iTunes uncheck those boxes click apply then okay.

Just a few thoughts.

What version of windows are you running and sp?
What video display adapter do you have?
What chipset and cpu do you have?
What java version do you have?

I have seen this problem caused by a variety of reasons. Each one having there own sollution, and some that don't work at all.

Best of luck

Hey Fabion...

thanks for the quick response.....and all the help you're giving other folks also.

Using Win XP with SP2
1.6 ghz centrino with 512 mb
Java just updated to 1.5 (per other suggestions)
NOT sure about the video display adapter (how do i check?)

One problem is that as soon as i run LW, sometimes it does'nt even give me enough time to go into the options menu to change any settings. As soon as it starts it re-boots. I've been running anti-virus and spyware also. Like i said, my laptop only re-boots when i use LW. Ya think i may have downloaded a bug ??

Well if you think you may have got something, you can get a free virus scan from this link. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/d...d=ie&venid=sym

To find your display adapter and chipset -- start>contol panel>system>hardware> device manager --- this will list all the hardware intalled on your laptop.

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed.

You can try fixes for LimeWire. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32552

Delete the .limewire folder as per the instructions.

Best of luck

Hey there...

thanks again for trying to help. Tried everything on your last post, driver updates, fix it thread,....so far no luck. LW runs for about a minute or so then re-boots my laptop. The error message flashes so fast i can't read what it says before the reboot.

All was working just fine until i upgraded to 4.8 but i also dowloaded some software from Cox cable to access the internet we just got. I'm thinking that must have something to do with it since it's the only thing i've done different.......

anyway, thanks again
