Hi BeerBottleBill

This is a normal function of LimeWire. LimeWire automaticaly detects your connection if I am not mistaken. If you have a fast enough connection it will automaticaly switch you to an UltraPeer if it detects it is needed by the "G" network.

The longer you leave LimeWire running the better chance you have of being switched to an Ultrapeer.

I normally run as a UP, but if I close LW for more than 15 - 30 minutes, when it restarts it is in Leaf connection status. It normally takes appx. 6 hours before it will switch over to UP.

Hope this helped answer your question.

Ultrapeers also have to be able to accept incoming connections, so maybe a firewall or router is blocking incoming.

Search the forums for "accept incoming" for more details

No, theres no need to reinstall. I've found that newer versions of limewire might have slightly different 'rules' or parameters by which they determine who will be ultrapeer.

For me, I always eventually get there. If I run 16+ hours a day, each day when i start up, I'm Ultrapeer, but if i dont run it for 2-3 days in a row, I'll start out a leaf, and today it took nearly 2 hours before i clicked disconnect and reconnect and it actually jumped me up.

But keep in mind that you need to keep all the settings OPEN and available for incoming connections, sharing fairly, for best results. (It doesnt seem that the freeloader setting matters in the software decision). But people are right here when they say the software chooses what the network needs. Hope that helps too.
