Thumbs up Beginning to like LimeWire, could use some suggestions/help!

Background:
P4 2.8C/1 GB DDR/128MB 8X AGP/W2K Pro SP3/Java 1.4.2_06

After doing some web research, decided to try out LimeWire! Downloaded/installed 4.8.1 and set my Kerio Firewall to enabled both TCP/UDP all ports/always both directions and I got connected!, however, for the first 30 mins my pc got SLOW down to a craw (CPU usage normal - less than 12%) min/max of LimeWire window took at least 5-8 secs and opening/viewing other folders took 10 secs......decided to reduce my share files from 75 to 20 (all 700MB - 1.5GB avi/mpeg files) and after about 30 mins everything was back to normal/super fast, took less than 1 sec to min/max LimeWire window, CPU usage less than 1%, Ram usage 14-18mb....WOW. (I incresed my share files back to 75 and no problem, so I would guess it's not the number of file shared!)

I managed to DL 3 avi files each about 80mb (to test)...however NO ONE is uploading from me???? Keep up the good work!

128M RAM?
I think there's your problem.
I got a 256M and it's still not lightining fast (rules don't quite apply to me though because Apple's implementation of Java is somewhere in the poop class).

I'd agree... going from 128MB RAM to even 192MB RAM will more than double your free RAM, in effect. BUT, your the 128MB is VIDEO RAM, not main memory!

The cheapest possible computer upgrade is to buy some used RAM on EBAY.

Also, when you overflow virtual memory, everything slows to a crawl while Windows extends VM on your hard drive... when you reboot, you go back to your old size VM. I set my VM to four times the size of my RAM, to be savfe...

Your 1GB RAM should be fine.

With my slow 450MHz AMD Athlon... I notice when initially connecting, things are very slow for the first 10-15 minutes, until ALL my files are being shared. Then, things are fine after that.

Also, whilst LimeWire is VERIFYING a big file, things slow to a crawl.
