Bizarre Limewire Issue

Hey guys, just wanted to start this thread off by saying thanks for creating LimeWire - I love it!

My problem I've been having is this: Whenever I run LimeWire, my entire system slows to a crawl. It's not just LimeWire, but my whole system. When I go to the task-manager, it says that LimeWire is using anywhere from 90% of CPU resources to 100% of CPU resources. It's extremely bizarre, and I've tried everything including re-installing LimeWire. I've even tried that trick where you delete the .limewire folder in the "C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\.limewire" folder.

If someone could help me out, that'd be very appreciated. Thanks!

What version of java (latest is 1.5)?
What CPU speed?
How many ongoing downloads?

At the bottom right, how shared files numbers are displayed? ie 1) 270 shared files or 2) 105/270 shared files

(if 2 let your computer hash files -compute unique identity- and show the 1) option before checking the cpu usage)

Bonne chance ;)

Right now, I am running Java 1.4.2

My CPU is an Athlon 2800+, but I don't remember what it's running at (somewhere in the 2.1 Ghz area).

Ongoing downloads are about 20.

At the bottom left of the screen, it says "Sharing 45 files"

you should use java 1.5 its faster http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp (take jre not sdk).

20 ongoing dl is a bit high, try to pause some and see if the cpu usage goes down, LW should not use more than 5% of your processor.

ciao

Thanks for the help guys! I'll try reducing the number of downloads, and if that doesn't work I'll try installing Java 1.5.

I'll get back on here & post my results as soon as possible.

Edit: Oh, and by the way, my RAM is 512 MB and my video card is a Radeon 9700 Pro, if that helps

Please excuse the double post, but I am posting the results of my attempts to fix my Limewire issue.

I tried installing Java 1.5, and I tried pausing *all* of the downloads in my download que, and neither of those worked for me :(

In the mean time, I went into the Task Manager and set LimeWire's priority to "Low" so that I can still do other tasks while it's running (but the computer is still slow acting).

Any other suggestions guys?

What display adapter are you using?

Radeon 9700 Pro

Check out this link. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34408

The ATI catalyst seems to have problems for some reason.

I'm fairly certain that it isn't a video card problem, as my CPU is bearing most of the load when LimeWire is running like this (hence, the Task Manager saying that I'm using 99% of CPU resources during running Limewire)

Edit: At any rate, I tried setting my video card to "optimal" performace, and that didn't work. Then I tried setting it to the defaults, and that didn't work. I still haven't tried rolling back the driver, but frankly I don't want to do that.
