Default Windows Media Player 10 Sucks

I have updated my WMP and now every file I try to preview says " Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found." I have downloaded the DivX codec and the Xvid codec and it still isn't working!! This is driving me crazy! Can anyone please assist me?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

You could always try VLC I guess (has in-built codecs): http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (choose nearest mirror site)
Here's a list of what it can/can't play: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Other than that try codecs from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/

You can always try an alternative player if it's a major issue. Many, many alternatives. A couple of suggestions are QCD (has built in codecs & others to add) & iTunes or take Peerless's advice.

Nothing wrong with WMP10 , it works just fine. You have to have the right codecs to make it work the way you want it to work, as with any player on the net.
Here is a link to a codec site that will make WMPxx work for what you need.
Read the page and decide whether you want to download it, I have it and it works fine.
K Lite Codec Pack
