I run W2k sp4 with an ATI x800 xt, and I get a blank white window at 4.8.1 startup, and then another blank, slightly larger greyed window opens titled "language options". If I move the grey window over so i can see the white window, and then hold the mouse button down over the grey window's title bar, I can see a moving action bar that says "loading HTML engine". Releasing the mouse button makes the action bar go away. Nothing else happens; all i can do is click on the "X" box to close the grey window, then both the white and grey blank windows close. 4.8.1 needs a fix,but dont know what. Support says ATI cards can give problems, but if older versions of LW worked, why cant they fix the bug in this one??

I tried all the suggestions that applied in the gnutella post. None worked. I tried the current and earlier versions of java, different users (I already was admin).
I'd install the prev version of Limewire, but dont know where to find one. Never had an issue with Limewire before, so whatever 4.8.1 did, they need to address it, or I've (and many others apparently) wasted $ upgrading the Pro. I might put XP upgrade back on just to see if the problem extends to XP as well. So far, LW support hasnt got back to me after thier first suggestion failed (updating my ATI drivers).

I don't know what the hell is wrong either...it won't open either. I have tried the free version and Pro and neither work. I have upgraded to the newest Java and uninstalled and re-installed both versions and still no go. I remember having this problem before when I had to re-install XP Pro SP2 but can't for the life of me remember how I got it to work. Any luck with anyone else having the same problem?

I just remembered how I fixed the problem I just uninstalled the newest version of Java (which is what you can download from java.com now) and rebooted. Then I went to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html and downloaded the JRE version and "Boom! Tuff actin' Tinactin" style both versions of Limewire work just fine. And it will now aloow you to upgrade Java when newer versions become available. I don't know why it needs the older version to work before it will work with newer versions but it does. Hope everyone with this issue is now a happy file sharer. You might also want to check out downloading Peer Guardian 2 from www.methlabs.org for the more moderate downloader.
