Running REALLY slow

Whenever I run limewire the program runs VERY slowly on my machine. And I can't seem to figure out why.

It doesn't seem to affect the rest of the system. although it does seem to use alot of the CPU when interacting with it (i.e. changing search types), which I wouldn't have thought would be very processor intensive for any amount of time.

I have java 1.5 installed on my machine. Any advice?

True, Limewire is extremely slow even in comparison with other relatively heavy Java applications. It is very inefficient.

In addition to being generally slow, some problems seem to be specific to the UI. In some cases, while downloads advance normally, the limewire window will remain clear after re-opening it even after 10 minutes of massive cpu and HD work, while everything else on the computer work perfecly well.

Someone should make this a sticky. As discussed at length in this thread a few days back downgrading from Java 1.5.x to JRE 1.4.2 does the trick. Limewire starts at rocket speed for me now.

People may argue till kingdom come about how good the improvements in Java 1.5 are, but if it doesn't perform, well it has to stand in line as far as I'm concerned.

Hope this helps someone.
