Unhappy downloading tv programs to dvd

Ok, another new user wanting help!! I can get my audio files to download and onto a cd-r so I tried to download and burn a couple or tv programs that I missed. Downloaded fine and went into the library. they were originally identified as AVI files prior to download. when I saved them and tried to burn them onto a dvd using nero it wouldn't let me as it says it is not in a format that can be put on dvd. I can put in on a video cd but not all dvd players can read these as I hav found out 3 out of 4 dvd players in my household do not recognise this format. when the tv programs are in the library they come up with a little Windows Media Player symbol beside then it all goes wrong. I press enqueue and save to save in my video file but then it comes up as a m3u file which the Nero burner says cannot be made into a dvd???? totally confused. please help

m3u is simply a playlist file. It simply lists the songs & points the player to where they are.
The LW playlist is not intended for video files.
Do you have the latest nero & plug-ins? You'll probably need them. Nero can convert these avi files to mpeg2 which is what's needed for dvd. But you need to make sure nero has the appropriate avi converters. Do you have the divX codec? http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/

Get GSpot (a free program) that will identify the codec that you might need .. it's free and it will tell you what you need to play a certain file.. just open the file in GSpot and it will tell you. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Default further on the tv prgms....

thanks I have the most up to date nero and will down load the gspot stuff. My problem is that when I have downloaded and the programs are in my library I don't know how to get them onto Nero to burn. Should I save them in my shared video file and if so how to i do that as the nly buttons I have option to click on are refresh, explore, launch, enqueue, delete and describe. If i right click I also get bitzi and magnet optins. I think if you could point me in the right direction with this simple point I will ok from there!

thanks

Select the file or folder (saved files folder or shared) & press the Explore button & this will open the folder up for you. Then just drag & drop the video file onto nero. Or direct Nero there. The default location for your downld folder is: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

Unhappy still not compatible!!!.....tv programs to dvd

Dear Lord of the rings......got the gspot, got the codec, can drag and drop into nero but when I do it says "no compatible files found" what am I doing wrong. The file looks like it has the right codecs installed and the file should be ready to burn onto a dvd but not COMPATIBLE, why? do i need to buy the Dvix convertor. When I open the file in Divx it just plays it. Great but how do I get it burn on NERO. thanks

Angry getting me down, now!!!!

Hello anyone, I have had some great help up to now to try to understand why I cannot burn video files on Nero. I can download on LW, I can store it ok, I even put it through Gspot to find out what codec it needs (not really sure what I'm looking for there, though). then have downloaded the Divx create package which converts (allegedly) my downloads to a tyope that can they be burned to dvd. Nope!! not happening. I have Nero version 6.3.1.17 gateway; and every time I try to drag and drop from my Divx folder it says it's incompitable file. It seems to only want bup, vob or ifo files but I don;t know how to make my downloads into these. Any advice, anyone??

thank you - jax

Make sure you have the up to date Nero codec plug-ins. You should be able to burn from avi & mpeg files. Nero itself should be able to convert these (but yes, some avi's such as divx it may struggle with.)

Can you explalin the process you go thru when you add the video files & which tabs & click on Nero?

Default hello again

Thaks you are so quick at replying. First download on lw, then I clikc on explore on the dwonload whihc opens up all my shared files. I then click on Divx convertor and drag and drop the file into this. the convertion process takes forever! Once done it is stored in the Divx movie folder. I go on Nero Smart Start and click on the DVD tab at the top between the HD burn and CD tab. I then click on "photo and video" which has only one icon to click on. This then brings up a second screen onto which I can try to drag and drop from teh Divx folder. This screen says "Nero Express" "DVD video files" "Add your DVD video files to the VIDEO_TS folder". This is where it goes wrong, I try to drag and drop and it says it's incompatible. I am a bit confused was a plug-in is and when I get one which one do i get and how does it work with my existing Nero package if I need one at all. Thanks Jax
