I had the same problem with limewire. I have norton and I also downloaded yahoo popup blocker. It's safe and it let me know that limewire was adware on my computer--I just scanned it with antispy. Try downloading yahoo popup w/antispy. I uninstalled limewire and deleted it's files on my computer. Now my computer runs normal.

It's more likely a Java issue. Either update to Java 1.5 or backdate to 1.4.2 since different versions of java run differently on particular people's systems.

yahoo popup w/antispy is obviously not a properly configured program to cater for p2p programs. Need to be careful about which ones you get. And uninstalling LW is not exactly a proper solution if this person wants to continue using LW. So if you uninstalled LW, what are you doing here?

I didn't read your whole post the first time. What am I doing here? Well, I like limewire and I'm looking for answers to why I keep getting adware. I have java 1.4.2 and I still continue to get it. Give me a link to download limewire--why do you people get so offensive when someone has a problem with limewire?

Default LW (Pro) with XP SP1

Yakubo

I too use LW Pro 4.9.11 with XP SP1 and get the same problem you do (and I also have Yahoo's Anti-Spy - more about this later).

I find that if I run Norton System Works (2004) "Windoctor" or "One Button Fixup" after an LW session then windows will close normally, if I don't then windows will crash (freeze up) before it can close down.

I suspect that during an LW session, which can last up to 60 hours, a lot of "memory debris" builds up, both in actual and temporary memory, this slows the closing of other programs, e.g. Norton Personal Firewall (ccApp.ex), hence the crash.

Mind you, someone else may have a better explanation because I have based the above purely on my own observation.

UK Bob

PS. Yahoo Anti-Spy gives a false positive with LW.

After running LW for a long session have you looked at the task manager to see how much memory LW is using, Also are you running as a UP or Leaf or does it even seem to matter. I have noticed with past versions of LW there appears to be a memory leak but I am not sure about this, due to beta testing I usually do not run for more than 12 hrs at a time in any mode. In my observations while running 4.9.22 the memory leak seems to have disappeared while running in UPnP with UP disabled. I do not know about UP mode yet only been running a couple of hrs as UP and it seems to be hanging around 78MB still pretty high and I haven't done any DL yet. Any way I was just curious I do not know that I would recommend 4.9.22 yet I had quite a few problems when I first started testing but it is working good now.

Sorry I took my frustrations out on you in another thread it is not that we take offencive about people with problems. It is the fact that allot of people make statments that just aren't true and have done no research on them but post any way the spyware issue has ben discussed many times and can easly be researched but people chosee not to. Anyway the link below will take you to the official site which may be where you got LimeWire. I see you are running yahoo popup blocker/with antispyware (known issues)

I can tell you this is very obvious on the mac OSX platform. Much less so on the Windows platform but still was evident. With the improvements to the use of Java for LW 4.9 recently, these have reduced but still exist in some form at least. For mac osx, it included large ram use & large virtual memory (temp storage on HDD.) AFAIK this is fundamentally a Java flaw. Java unfortunately doesn't release the memory it holds down as quickly as it should. Later versions of Java improve upon this but still it's an issue at least with the most recent Java despite the improvements. And for LW, despite the nio improvements it still affects some people though not so badly.
