Firewall problems I updated to the newer version of LimeWire the other day, but when I opened it, this is what I got: "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire." Now, I had never really had any firewall problems with the older version so why am I having them now? The weird thing was, yesterday I tried to open it again (I had tried this a LOT) and it worked. Later when I had to restart my computer I tried to open it again and I got the same message about the firewall. I followed the directions to open up ports and all that in the Windows Firewall but it didn't work and I don't know what else to do. |
I have just got this message too, first time i have received it. I hadn't downloaded the new version of limewire. I have just upgraded to the pro version been meaning to do it for awhile but this made me do it but I am still getting it. I have checked my windows firewall and added limewire as a program to allow and it is granted all acces within my mcafee. Nothing should be stopping it so what is happening??? please help! |
personally, i dont like software firewalls. does your dsl/cable modem have a router? if so, open up port 6346, you will have no problems. |
hi software i can use but when it comes to anything remotely hardware or slightly technically i get stuck. what would be my router? and how do i open up a port? |
ok you got an internet provider.. they gave you a modem. does that modem go directly to your computer, or to another box with a cable, then a cable from that box to your computer? |
how exactly do you open up router port 6346 and once i open what do i do can u please help me |
you have to open its management function by opening up the router in your web browser. if you're not sure about it, go to Start -> Run then type in cmd. Type in ipconfig. Heres an example of mine: Quote:
It is http://192.168.0.1 but i have seen them as 10.10.10.1 and 192.168.15.1 |
banmicrosofttoo There is a pretty good link for configuring and Port Forwarding routers. You may want to use it. It might save you some typing. http://portforward.com/ |
