your ram is correct.

Did somebody build your computer or was it made by a company. I need to know the Brand and Model number so I can look it up on the internet.

Hi Grandpa

The reason I came up with that is the Cpu could be over clocked, I once bought a 486 dx 25 wich was over clocked to run at the speed it did , but did not know it at the time. I got ripped off, green in them days, I also have had people come to me with computers restarting themselves after a certain amount of time, and every single time it is the Cpu running at the wrong speed and has been over clocked.

The only Other time a computer has come to me that wasn't overclocked, it was because the drivers were conflicting with each other

Hi ante1

Have had a look at your computer specs, It should not reboot Itself unless the computer is not cooled properly ie you don't have enough fans, for that kind of specs you should have one on the Cpu unit and 2 others.

Or some of your drivers are conflicting with other drivers, I Have found that in a Lot of cases when I Build Computers that the order you install the computers drivers ie motherboard, video, soundcard exct has a lot to do with it

I suspect from ante1's mention of watching the man install the ram, that this box was made by someone local...an iffy proposition at best (both boxes that I had someone make for me were trash,,until I rebuilt them..and the 2 that I've made myself work just fine)

it just might be a ram issue, though at this point I'm leaning more toward agreement with driver conflicts..also, a virus/trojan/malware just might cause this crap, hence doing a full scan would be a damn good idea...

Sgt / Peerless

Unfortunately I am not a Intel man prefer AMD myself. I did a little research based on the information that ante1 has provided in this thread. I do not think ante1 is overclocked I do not think the CPU is overheating. From my experience have built and broke several computers. I love to break things according to my wife. ante1 either has a bad stick of memory and it may be overheating or a driver issues. That is why I recommended having the memory tested. If the memory is good I would still add another 512mb if you want XP to sing you need it. Any way if the memory does test good then it is probably a driver but usually if it is a operating system conflict you will get the blue screen of death. Check out the links below and see if you can come up with any more ideas.

Hi Grandpa

I must say that personally I have never had a computer restart because the ram is overheating, even if it is faulty, usually it will just refuse to start and make a bios noise, and I have built them for a living for the last 12 years, also If the ram is faulty you usually get all sorts of other problems from progs not being able to start to corrupted writes, but then you learn something new everyday I will look into this
