I have read all the relevant material concering cpu and memory usuage and unistalled and reinstalled limewire and the two different java packages without any significant results. It bogs down the cpu to the extent it almost freezes. I have yet to find a answer to this question even though it has been posed many times. Is it just that limewire is a cpu and memory hog?

This seems to be a particular problem with .30 As you can see I use Mac and have yet to update as I don't know if this is a windows only problem.

Windows experts ..... any comments!!

I'm no Windows expert but the 4.9.30 LimeWire is a memory hog... or at least, I think it is. Once I re-installed 4.9.28 I no longer had that problem.

Tried 4.9.28 hogs cpu but seems to stabliize after running for sometime. Annoying. So many updates lately it is hard to keep track of the last STABLE version of limewire. Does anyone have this information.

Ya it seems that 4.9.28 is more stable than 4.9.3 although it still spikes periodically and takes quit awhile to stablize after starting it up. I had a thought that maybe I was downloading to many files at once but no it still does it even when downloading a single file. I hope there is a remedy to this soon. I would still like to know if anyone knows the last REALLY STABLE version of limewire. Thanks everyone for their reponses.

You may want to consider getting a new computer as LW grows and evolves it will probably become more memory intensive and use more CPU the more features they add to it the more it the more resources it is going to require. And not being critical or anything but your computer specks are pretty weak epically for a machine running XP.

Windows has grown over time they keep adding features to it and the more they add to it the more resources it requires. XP requires 256MB of ram just to operate and it doesn't operate very well at 256MB. LW requires another 70MB which is about the same as any other P2P software out there. With those 2 programs running you are pretty well maxed out.

There are a couple of things you can do. You can add more ram but I do not think that will do allot of good in your case 1000MHz is not a real fast processor but it will help.

The other thing you can do is put 98SE on it. 98 uses allot less CPU and ram and will preform better on a machine like yours. 98 was a pretty good program for its time but it is no XP.

Who are you? I have no problems with anything concerning cpu or memory usuage with my computer. It works just fine. It is limewire that needs to improve upon it design. I appreciate your advise but I don't think the remedy is to run out and buy a new computer, at least not quite yet! LOL ...I have run previous more stable versions of limewire on my computer in the past without all the frills. Although I also run other p2p programs with allot more frills then limewire with excellent results. I like limewire, it just seems like something was lost in the last few version mainly huge amounts of cpu and memory. I think this can certainly be improved upon. I patiently wait for the next version to arrive in hopes that this will be the one that got it right. Thank Grandpa for your prompt advise it is appreciated truly but I think I will wait awhile and see what limewire does first.

Actuall on my computer it uses less CPU an Memory than previous versions.

I have found that CPU utilization is hugely dependent on how many files are being shared.

Although I want to be a good P2P citizen, I can't have LW using 50% CPU, so I have only one folder shared.
