Limewire crashes

I have version 4.9.30 basic, it ran fine for several days but when I trued to start it today it crashed when I tried to load it. I tried unsinstall/reinstall but it did not work.

My specs:

OS: WinXP Pro SP2
CPU: P4
Anti-Virus: Norton (auto-protect disabled while using LimeWire)

CyberStalker September 24th, 2005 10:07 AM

For me, I noticed that the 4.9.30 version used up a lot of memory, therefore it slowed everything down. Sometimes programs would freeze up on us.

I would not disable you AV when DL you are asking for a virus if you do that.

Netskimmer September 24th, 2005 12:03 PM

It doesn’t run slow or freeze. When I click on the icon it brings up a window saying Limewire has encountered a problem and must close.

LimeWire may have gotten corrupted some how possibly a virus do a virus scan. Preferably a boot scan

You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

when clicking on download nothing happens

Grandpa September 24th, 2005 04:31 PM

That tells me allot DL what LW

Netskimmer September 24th, 2005 09:01 PM

Ok, I downloaded the off-line installers for both Limewire basic and java, I deleted both java and Limewire from my hard drive, booted from my Norton CD and ran a virus scan (which took 4 hours to complete) which came back negative. I then rebooted and ran a normal virus scan which also came back negative, reinstalled java and Limewire and it’s still crashing when I try to run it.

Have you recently add some new software or used any registry repair tools like Registry Mechanic or Norton Utilities that fix you registry.

Netskimmer September 25th, 2005 07:38 AM

No.

Grandpa September 25th, 2005 09:15 AM

OK this is a problem that is not real common and is usually a Windows problem the link below will take you to Norbie's World it is a free computer on line diagnostic site I occasionally go to the site and read the forums when there is a problem here I can not figure out.

You will have to register there and they will have you run some test for them and diagnose you problem. And hopefully find a solution. Could you post back here and let us know how it goes.

Netskimmer September 25th, 2005 02:10 PM

Apparently Norton missed a few viruses. Norbie sent me to an online scanner that found them. Now Limewire works. Thanks for the help Grandpa.

Grandpa September 25th, 2005 03:55 PM

Thanks for letting us know

You really need to learn how to write a good thread I am not sitting in front of your computer and I am not telepathic.

Therefore I or most likely anyone else in this forum know what you are talking about. If you are having a problem and you need help then you are going to have to do a better job of explaining you problem. A lot more information is going to be needed including a accurate description of you problem.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

13. Do a speed test post the results here.
