Computer restarts when running Limewire I have a Compaq Windows XP home SP2 Intel 2.4 1 gig ram Everytime I run Limewire since 2 patches ago it randomly restarts my computer. Sometimes it restarts after 10 minutes, sometimes after 2 hours. I use my computer all day for school somedays over 8 hours straight and never have a problem, it's only with Limewire. I also tried another program like Limewire (bearshare) and I had the same problem. Any help and advice please? 1) The computer is not over-heating before it restarts, according to Everest 2) I can play WoW all day over the weekend and have no problem or any other program, it's only Limewire or file share programs. 3) My computer is stock, I haven't overclocked it or done anything to it. Thanks |
No one has had this problem or any idea on how to fix it. I think it must be a Java issue but I'm not sure how to fix that. Any help would be appreciated Thanks |
It probably is a conflict with another program you have or a driver problem these can be very tough to figure out. You can go to the link below they may be able to help you there. Could you post back here if they are able to figure out the problem and let us know what it was. http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/ |
Still haven't be able to fix this problem. I have even Fdisked my computer (I do that every once in awhile) reinstalled Windows, and all new drivers and it will just randomlly restart the computer =( Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? thanks |
As Grandpa suggested, it could be due to many reasons. One being a bad ram chip, one being overheating due to inappropriate heat sinks/fans, another being drivers for graphic card or cpu or conflict between hardware/driver components. LW is simply acting as the catalyst but isn't the cause. As far as the overheating goes, I believe there is a 3rd party utility program you can get to check the parts responsible. It was posted on the forum once, but the thread seems to have disappeared. Are you getting BSD? (Blue Screen of Death) If not, then it's probably not the drivers at fault. More likely overheating or something else. Peerless might be of help here. BTW what did Norbie say? |
i am having the same problem but i am getting the blue screen. What does this mean? |
Generally BSD is due to incompatible components or drivers. As suggested, it could also be a bad ram chip. Here's some references to BSD issues: 1. Link 1, 2. Link 2, 3. Link 3, 4. Link 4, & finally 5. http://forums.techguy.org/archive/in.../t-401160.html Google Blue screen of death or bsd & you'll get the picture. 1st step should be to update all your drivers for all parts of your computer. |
the thing is, I have dsl at home at it works fine. I tried it on cable internet and it reboots my computer. The same thing in my university on their wireless broadband internet. |
PC Restarting (due to LW) People There are two reasons I know off that will cause LW to restart a windows (XP) PC (and one of them is not LWs fault). 1) There seems to be an incompatibility between Nvidia video drivers, which are used by lots of PC motherboards, and LW, some versions of LW will work with some versions of the Nvidia drivers but, unfortunately, you will never really know which version of LW will work with which version of Nvidia until you start to use them together. Therefore, the next time your PC crashes you let it send a report, via the internet, and follow the link to the answer on the Microsoft site. The MS site may recommend that you either upgrade or change your drivers. 2) It is possible that your PCs are infected with a virus or two, if you read through this forum you will find people who have either PCs that randomly restart or LW will not close down. The answer for that is investing in a good AV app. UK Bob |
If it is working with your DSL modem and not your cable modem and you are getting the BSD then I would say you have a driver issue with your cable modem. That is if you are running a paid for version of windows. If you are using a free version of windows there is a good chance it is corrupt. Hey UK you beat me don't forget #3 pirated version of windows |
