Limewire Basic preview issues in Win XP

Hi all, I can't get preview to work - it defaults to wmp and gives a "missing codecs" message.

I have:
- got the latest update of wmp
- got divx codec
- checked limewire faqs, google, and keyword search on here

Can anyone help me with this?

thanks

(nb this is with .avi and .mpg files - I haven't tried any other type)

The easiest solution is to buy a mac computer. lol http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../happy/019.gif
Get GSpot & it will tell you what codec you need for a particular file. Also get VLC (in-built codecs) as a backup player as it's very reliable!!! See CODECs list and alternate players for Movies & please in future look at the stickies or use the search button before posting. This question has been asked but so .. so .. so ... many times. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../happy/028.gif

Found VLC via your very own sticky!

Thanks, have installed VLC and will let you know if it works post-restart

Don't forget if you want VLC to be the player to preview files then it will need to become the default program: Setting Default video app

Personally I use VLC as default for some formats & QT for another. Just a personal preference.

Thanks for your help and advice

- VLC didn't cure the problem, so I uninstalled it

- I found a VERY simple solution - the unfinished video files play in wmp if I double-click on them in the 'Incomplete' folder in C:\program files\limewire

cheers forum folk!

I did ONCE, but it was on a Thursday
