Default Odd crashing on LW start up

Alright, so here's the problem. Every time I start up limewire, it'll give me the splash screen, ask if I want to go Pro, then crash. It gives me a fatal error. Upon review of the crash details, I have what's listed below. I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling both Limewire and the Java Runtimes. But I cannot get it to work for the life of me. The problem started when I updated to the most recent version of LW. Everything was working fine before then, but that was a long time ago now because I haven't bothered trying to fix it in a while. Due to that, system restore is not an option. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

The debug info provided by Limewire is below:

LimeWire version 4.8.1
Java version 1.5.0_02 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86
Free/total memory: 557744/6074368

Someone posted earlier & said they changed their LW compatibility to windows 2k & it fixed it. This might not fix it for you but it's worth trying; see Fixes for Limewire

Depending on which version of Java you have, it might be worth swapping versions. If you have Java 1.5 then uninstall it using the Add/Remove control panel & then install Java1.4.2 Or if you have 1.4.2 then update to 1.5 (Links for Java can be found in the link above.) Also, don't install Java over the net, downld the installer & save it to your computer 1st & then install it.

In all cases Limewire just disappears, This can be in the middle of a download, a search or just scrolling a file search listing.

I have various Java components installed as follows:

Java Runtime Enviroment 1.1
Java 2 Runtime Enviroment SE1.4.2_06
Java 2 Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update2

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Mark

I have the same issues with the same error messages in the logs - I went thru all the Limewire fixes with no joy. This started happening after upgrading from 4.8, to 4.9.37 - grrr. I have the latest java, yada yada - so it's very puzzling.

Hi Porktree!

I sorted my problem by switching to Shareaza.

As well as giving me a superior search engine Shareaza has an excellent Bittorrent client.

By comparison Limewire is a piece of crap.

Enough said.

LOL, but I LIKE Limewire I did go grab Shareaza and it's sweet, except I don't like the way it took over my torrent downloads. Anyway, happy files to you

Well I'm happy for you

Personally I think life is too short to be a r&d drone for the great java god Sun...remember the great Sun java browser fiasco in the early 90's? Once is enough thank you.

Regards
Mark
