Runaway Shortcut & (4.10. )

i rarely leave linewire runnig thru the nite, because i usually have problems after. recently problems with conflicting firewalls. this time of year i can't get my computer geeks over to help.

anyway, i left L W running the other nite, next morning i had an error message. it wouldn't let me print it, it listed all my L W parameters. it also told me there was a program download problem, and i had to D L the program again. i was on dial-up when i D L program the first time. (took forever) worth the wait tho. i figured because it took so long then, that that was why it had a problem now. i D L LW again. it found all my files, settings etc. (cool) last night i shut it down. this morning it was gone again. i didn't realize yesterday this is a new version 4.10. does that have anything to do with anything? now that i have hi-speed i don't have a problem D L program everyday, but if i had dial-up that would be a real B*#CH.

i have been on LW almost everyday since i DL it. no problems other than the usual gremlins. i would really appreciate any help.

Do you mean the program disappeared? If yes, then it sounds like you're using a spyware program that's not p2p program compatible. Perhaps like the Yahoo or AOL spyware such as this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...739#post180739
If yes, then disable it & get these instead: 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also 2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)

Make sure you have the most recent Java. If you have a very large no. of incomplete files, then perhaps you should consider Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! as that will give a fresh breath of new life to LW.

yes, the program is gone but the shortcut is still there. when i click on shortcut, it immediately starts searching for program. (doesn't find it). then asks if i want to delete shortcut.

we recently went with (roadrunner 12-14-05) which does have AOL spyware. i didn't have a problem with any of this till i tried to install MSN instant messenger (got a quick cam 12-15-05). that's when it started with the firewalls. (i have to disable Norton as soon as i log on). then yesterday (12-23-05) the program was gone.

You'll have to get "that" spyware proggie disabled then if you want to use LW.

as soon as i can get my computer consults, i will do just that.

i don't know what java is, or is for. i do keep inc's to a minimum, drop in 5 days. don't know what (purge the DL's queue) is.


basically the only thing i know about on this computer is where to find my music, and where to put it, to use it.


any major differences between LW 4.9.37 & 4.10.??

p.s. i'm a capricorn that's never been very curious when it comes to comp. (unless there's music of course) i don't want to do something that will really ***** things up. the only thing on here to lose is a lot of music.

No problems. I suspect the spyware program is the main concern at present. I was just wondering about your earlier issue about LW crashing. Purging simply means to delete your incomplete files. You know what URL links are don't you? You simply click on the underlined http links I left to find out more about that issue (such as the one below.)

excellent link, i LIKE to read the instructions!! i know how to use the links, i just don't know how you make it accessible to me.

LW doesn't really crash. it's just that (almost) every time i let LW run for the night, next morn computer is sloooow, or as in yest, gone. (nothing but LW running for uploads) i usually restart the computer, that gets things going again.

what's weird is, the last two days i had to re-DL LW and all my settings and files are right there. my forum stuff too. if i'm DL-ing a new program every day, i would think all personal stuff would be gone. (i'm really glad it's still there tho!!)
