Default Eats up Memory

I have tried a few of the Nvidia 'tweaks' and now LW 4.10.5 is finally starting OK.

However, once the downloads really get going (like 200KB+/sec via my cable modem), the program seems to hang and 500-700MB gets eaten up!!! (According to Cacheman 5.5)

Then sometimes it resumes and is stable, sometimes it just sort of hangs and sometimes it shuts down.

Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone know how to *fix* it?

My System:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ (939pin)
1GB RAM
200GB SATA drive
PCchips MB (Via chipset)

Nvidia GeForce MX 4000 8xAGP w/128MB RAM
VGA Card Manufacturer MSI
VGA Card Model Name MS-8936
VGA Card BIOS Vendor NVIDIA
VGA Card BIOS Version 4.18.20.36.00
VGA Card Driver Version 6172

Win98SE (All latest patches, Flash, DirectX, etc.)
Java J2SE 5.0 Update 6

It seems to happen after everything is done 'scanning'... That is, when LW has tried to download everything in the Incomplete directory.

No one else has this problem?!

Downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from PCchips.

Now I get up to 700 Kb/sec... It *crashes* faster than ever!

Check these hints: Fixes for Limewire

After opening LW, let it settle before using. See the following link & follow “ALL” the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) You may also want to disable iTunes sharing. Set uplds & downlds for auto-clear. Not abuse the Resume/Find Resources function!

I've tried most everything... LW works fine for a few minutes, then when things get going, it consumes *all* available memory and never really recovers.

This looks like some sort of bug.. Either a buffer overflow, or more likely an infinite loop.

I will try LM 4.10.5 on my friend's Win2KPro PC to see if it is OS or driver related.

im having the exact same problem jsallo.
very similar specs, just my mobo is an MSI board.
everything works fine for a little while, nothing extra going on in the background,(firewall OFF, etc.) just let LW run. after a few minutes it hangs saying it is out out memory or some such, cpu usage at 100%, only thing i can do is end program from task manager.
only thing i have changed on my system is upgraded to the latest LW (4.10.5)
very frustrating

Just for the record, LW worked great on my friend's AMD Athlon XP 2.2GHz on a FoxCon MB with 256MB DDR RAM running Win2KPro with all the patches.

I have updated to the latest IDE Drivers from VIA (5.07A):

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=6&CatID=1110

And the latest drivers from PcChips:

http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWeb/Dow...uID=35&LanID=2

Now, I no longer have the memory issue.

However, LW is *still* unstable. Out of 10 attempts, I estimate the following:

1 - Begins loading and freezes at LWPro prompt (CTRL-ALT-DEL works to quit)
1 - Begins loading and freezes PC (Need to hit Reset)
2 - Starts downloading and immediately quits w/o prompt
5 - Runs for less than 5 minutes and quits w/o prompt
1 - Runs for more than 10 minutes

So, if anyone has any further ideas, please post.

Which version of Java do you have? Perhaps an upgrade might be the answer so long as it doesn't conflict with your graphics card. Recommended is the "Offline" installer rather than installing online. Remove previous versions of Java before you install.

I have un-installed Java and removed every reference to 'java' from my C:\ as well as the System Registry.

I have re-installed MDAC 2.8, QuickTime, Acrobat Reader and the latestet Java release (JSE 5.0 update 6)

Now it's 50-50... Boots and closes either immediately or after about 10 minutes.

Getting closer...
