I doubt that you got Win32.P2P-worm Alcan.a from LimeWire. You go the virus from downloading and opening a software file 851.7kb in size. If you didn't notice there are allot of these 851.7kb files on the network every software search you do allot of them will show up. Now if you didn't download anything and you got the virus from installing LimeWire then you got your copy of LimeWire from somewhere besides the official site. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml The Fix only get LimeWire from the official site. Educate yourself about viruses on the network you might find the link below hopefully in that department. And get rid of the attitude we are all volunteers here and LimeWire did not cause the problem YOU DID go to the link below Norbie will be able to help you get rid of the virus. But I would get rid of the attitude of telling people what they had better do before I went there. You are lucky anybody answered your post. http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/Forums...ic/t=1295.html |

well grandpa...I did get Limewire from your site...now I'm beginning to understand that Limewire does not monitor what get's posted or what is in/on the download's...that is my mistake...I am glad there are volunteers...but as far as my attitude goes it remains the same and I particularly don't take kindly to have to 'check' my attitude at the door because you kindly suggest so. It was an eye opener to get the virus from what I incorrectly assumed was a trusted source. That is my attitude, still! I appreciate the link to try to overcome this nuisance. Perhaps Limewire keeps re-starting because of the virus...but not according to some posts here. Bad attitude? At least I didn't use profanity...you'd have caught some real bad vibes then, grandpa. |

Wub32.P2P-Alcan.a Hello... I am new to this forum and I was looking for help on this same subject. I appreciate Leeks concern. I get this also. My antivirus has held up but I get the warning from my antivirus after downloading the files more than I get the file that I am trying to get. So...tell me what gives here!? You mentioned the number of files in the 851.7KB on the sight. Sounds like a warning that limewire "volunteers" know of....fix it if you know the issue! I would like to say thanks for all that you do do! |

It is not LimeWire that has the viruses it is the Gnutella network. (Q) What is LimeWire ? (A) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LimeWire (Q) What is the Gnutella network ? There are allot of stickies at the top of each page read a few. |

COOL YOUR HEELS! Like I said....Just concerned.....trying to find an answer...this is not an attach on you......boy you have attitude! I have spent a lot of time in different forums and you have the biggest one of all.... You have a great day! |

Then read the links and educate yourself. All of the answers are there. LimeWire has nothing to do with the viruses on the gnutella network the users on the network are the ones spreading the viruses by not educating themselves and protecting themselves. The they come here and tell us we had better fix it. The fix is education but allot of people don't want to educate themselves. And I will have a great day you have one too. |

Thanks It is amazing how one wants to transfer the blame to others, and not taking responsibility for their own actions or lack of. I am an educator and work behavior challenged kids all day who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions of choice. I am new to Limewire, but not to P2P (Kazaa). If you don't have a good firewall, and a daily up to date virus program then you are asking for trouble. I downloaded one of the 857.1kb, thinking it may be a program that would go to another site for downloading the program - like some commericial programs do. MS does all the time! However, Norton AV identified and deleted the virus without futher incident. There is no substitute for a first line of defense - Firewall - AV. Limewire is GREAT - ad free, spam free, and virus free. Not 100% true about the downloads ) |

virus This is all very well BUT, if the problem lies with the gnutella network _ and Limewire runs through the gnutella network _ it SHOULD NOT advertise it's program as it does: "No Spyware, No Adware, No Trojan Horse, Just Pure File Sharing"..... You passing the message that we're safe when in fact we're not???.... As for the viruses, appart from the information already provided in this forum you can also block a user if you've downloaded an infected file from him. I would appreciate an answer to my point though..... |
